LAKELAND - Daniel "Mr. Dan" Duggan, 67, died of pancreatic cancer Sunday, April 24, 2011 in the comfort of his home with the tremendous sup-port of family, friends, and Good Shepherd Hospice.
Dan was born in Cambridge, MA, and lived most of his life in Lynn, MA. He retired to Lakeland, FL in 2006, determined never to live in a cold climate again. Living in Florida was a life-long dream of Dan's, and moving to Lakeland was the realization of that dream. His arrival on the block marked the beginning of his bringing his new neighborhood together. While many of the neighbors did not know one another prior to Mr. Dan's arrival, his outgoing nature and desire to lend tools and advice (sought or not) for others' projects helped everyone get to know him, and eventually each other. His home quickly became the gathering spot for all neighbors, and many an evening was spent on his hand-built lanai.
Dan is survived by his loving wife of 44 years, Diane Duggan, and his two daughters, Danielle Duggan of Portland, OR and Dawn Duggan of Quincy, MA.
A memorial service will be held at the Highland United Methodist Church, 3825 Clubhouse Road, Lakeland on Sunday, May 1, 2011 at 4:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be sent to Good Shepherd Hospice, Development Department, 105 Arneson Avenue, Auburndale, FL 33823 or

Wow, ten years, hard to believe! We loved Danny and although we did not always get to spend a lot of time together, we so enjoyed Danny and Diane and just being with family once we moved to The Villages. Mick and Danny often shared their love of cars together. We remember how much he and Diane loved their little doggy (sorry I do not remember the dog’s name at this moment). I think the dog felt the same way about them too! We miss you Danny!

I remember our Christmas in the Villages as a family. The sun was shining and we sat outside for a bit before dinner. It was an amazing day! Love all 3 of you! On this 10 year anniversary remember the love and that your Dad is always watching over you. ❤❤

It has been almost 5 years since Dan aka Dan Mcgruff left our neighborhood in Lakeland fl. It's true he brought our neighborhood together, that part of him lives on with all of us. We miss him, but feel blessed to have met him and Diane.

Can't believe it has been a year since Dan left us. Was honored that you all were able to spend Dan's last Thanksgiving in The Villages with myself and Donna and Rudy. You will be remembered. RIP Dan.

Rest in peace Uncle Danny. Hope u are in a better place thats warm. We will all miss you so much. We have alot of good memories of you from coffee everyday at our house to going to Home Depot and walking around checking out all the tools and u fixing all our cars, our kids would always say call uncle Danny he can fix it. You were like a DAD to us and we all loved you so much and allways will you will be in our hearts forever. We will miss you terribley and thank you for always being there for us. We will miss his wonderful smile and watching how proud he was of the fact that he and Diane made the move to Florida. When we saw him before we left FL for the summer, he was quite sick. But he still had his appetite and smiled when he saw the cookies that we brought and he gobbled up the chicken too despite his illness. Our love and caring to Diane, Dawn, and Danielle. Even though we cannot be there, we hope you can feel our hugs from afar.

Diane, Danielle and Dawn,
I have been thinking of the times spent on the "porch" on Friday nights having pizza. My Dad loved the time he spent with Danny. Ernie was talking about all that Danny taught him about cars. It was a wonderful time that we will never forget.You were all great neighbors to my Nana, Mom & Dad.
