We both grew up in Bessemer. Gerald was a role model. He was a year older than me. I played basketball as well and patterned my game after his style. We all looked up to him. I'm sure many of us owe whatever we have achieved to having grown up with Butch. No one called him Gerald. I did see Violet and Russel at the last "all class Reunion about 6 years ago.

Gerald(Butch) Scott was a role model. The nickname Butch reflected both affection and admiration from younger friends such as me. You wanted to be like Gerald. Gerald was left handed and surprised basketball opponents by pivoting to his right and shooting left handed which led to his scoring prowess. As a result I taught myself to shoot left handed from observing his success. An example of the esteem he was held in. I and I'm sure many others like me owe our success in life to being mentored by friends like Gerald.

I grew up with Gearld(Butch)Scott, 8 months younger. I am grateful and proud that I had the privilege to grow up with someone like Gearld. He was a role model before we used the term. A wonderful friend growing up.
