GLADYS STEDMAN
JOYNER, 94

LAKELAND - Gladys Joyner was born August 1, 1918 in Montclair, New Jersey. She died September 3, 2012 in Lakeland, Florida of natural causes.
She is survived by her children: Jo Joyner Willey (Jim) of Lakeland, Mary Joyner Messer of Tallahassee, Florida and R. Tom Joyner III (Carol) of Lakeland, her grandchildren, Matt Willey, Jason Willey, Whitney Folds Clark, Jonathan Folds, Allison Folds, Robert Joyner and Nicholas Joyner and 6 great grandchildren, Tyler Willey, Parker Willey, Spencer Willey, Charlotte Willey, Grey Jensen and Alexandra Clark.
She was preceded in death by her husband, R. Tom Joyner, Jr. and her brother, John Alexander Stedman.
Her family is grateful for and thankful to Mary Nichols for the loving care and companionship she gave to Glad during the last 4 years.
Glad and husband Tom moved to Lakeland in 1952 where they started Joyner Lumber Company. They were active in city politics, industry organizations and their church. Glad and Tom were founding members of St. David's Episcopal Church and both served as Senior Wardens.
Glad was also active in the Lakeland Antique Club, Republican Wom-en's Club and a hospital volunteer.
She enjoyed teaching 5th grade English at Cleveland Court Elementary, helping to send her daughters to college.
Glad was a caring daughter, devoted wife, loving mother and a gracious lady to her last days.
In lieu of flowers, please consider contributions to St. David's Episcopal Church, 145 East Edgewood Drive, Lakeland, Fl 33803 and/or Good Shepherd Hospice, 320 West Main Street, Lakeland, Fl 33801.
Memorial services will be held Friday, September 7, 2012 at 10:30 am at St. David's Episcopal Church.

Glad was the perfect lady always. Her elegance, her kindness and thoughtfulness will always be remembered by those who were privileged to have her in their lives!

My deepest sympathies to all the family on the death of your mother, grandmother, and great grandmother. I remember Glad as a truly lovely and gracious lady with a kind and generous spirit. It was an honor to have known her for the years I worked at the lumber company. I am sure you will miss her.
