To the family of Jody W. Missildine,

He was a great and admirable character, I served my several months in May to October 2005 with him in Fort Benning, GA (A Co. 2nd Battalion, 54th Infantry Regiment) His demeanor helped us get through the thick and think you could rely on him, and I felt secure to have men like him serving along my side as we volunteered to serve the country knowing we would be pushed off to war across the ocean....not the same nowadays as it was back then. I recall coming down the first weekend after finding out about the funeral, my battles and me drove all the way from North Carolina in one evening, to make sure we could honor Jody. I met his brother and sister and other family members. While he was not my only friend I lost in Combat, he will always fill the void in my heart, I know one day again we will meet one another in Heaven. I can't believe how long its been already. He was always a lively lad and I miss him wholeheartingly

Jody, I met you're grandpa today. And I must say your story touched my heart. I work at Lowes in plant city and he came in our store and one thing led to another and we started talking about you. Although Ive never met you I just wanted to take a moment to say how proud I am of you. And how proud your grandpa is of you. You will never be forgotten and all that youve done in your short 19 years. I thank you for your service Mr, Missildine May God Always be with with your family And may you always rest easy. to the missildine family. i served with task force bandit at the granary in tal afar. your jody was there but i dont recall him personally. i remember when the event happened. it was crushing to us all( the lingering thought; it couldve been any of us.) please be aware that jody did not die in vain. its us, (you and me) that keep jody alive, live for him, breathe his memory and never forget him or others that never made it home. i hug my momma extra hard knowing it couldve been me on innumerable occasions. i wish he could do the same for you all. cause thats all we as soldiers want. to return home to our loved ones and shout it(love for home and everything that entails it) from the heights of mountains. i remeber Ofc frankie telling me about jody, that he had joined the 18x ray program in hopes of becoming Special Forces. i am sorry for your loss. 1sgt Franklins last roll call of Private Jody W. Missildine will forever haunt me. not to be vain and about me, cause this isnt, but i got out for a few years and have since joined the air force for their pararescue program. im in the paramedic phase, and when i start feeling sorry for myself Jody and William Jackson and Emanuele legaspi come to mind reminding me that this is trivial and not about my own pathetic existance.its about our loved ones and altruism. that others may live.

Jody Wayne, My love, I miss everything about you. I still cant believe that your never gonna walk through my door again with that huge smile. I thought as time moved on it would get easier....but in all reality, it never will. My heart has this huge void that noone will or could ever fill. I will never have someone as amazing as you in my life and that breaks my heart over and over every time I think about it. You were so brave to do what you did, but God I wish you didnt. I want you here with me, I know its selfish of me but instead of you watching over me and everything I do....I want you to be doing it with me. Handsome, I think of you everyday and miss you so much. I LOVE YOU Jody Wayne Missildine.

I just cannot wrap my head and my heart around the idea that the smart, funny, helpful little boy in my 4th and 5th grade Gifted classes would become the strong, brave hero you did become. The sorrow I felt when I found out that you had left this world left a painful hole in my heart. As your teacher, I saw in you, Jody, great intelligence, humor and some wisdom beyond your years. I also saw in you a loving, compassionate human being. So the math homework didn't always get done :-)...you made an lifelong impression on me as a person and I am forever proud of you as a student, a soldier, as a wonderful human being.

Words cannot express the heartfelt thanks and gratitude we have for Pvt. Jody W. Missildine and the sacrifices his family has made for this country and the lives of others. We have a small flag with your name on it that was obtained last year at First Baptists of Orlando Memorial Ceremony.
As we placed it along side thousands of others with all honors on Memorial Day of 2007, we couldn't help thinking about your loved ones you left behind.
Afterwards we went back to retrieve it as we will continue to pray for your loved ones on this Memorial Day of 2008. Now we have a picture of you to place with your colors (same flag) in honor of your unselfish sacrifice for many Memorial Days to come. Keeping you and your family in our family's hearts and prayers while your resting in the arms of Jesus.
Thank You Jody

The Wind on The Downs

“I like to think of you as brown and tall,
As strong and living as you used to be,
In khaki tunic, Sam Brown belt and all,
And standing there and laughing down at me.
Because they tell me, dear, that you are dead,
Because I can no longer see your face,
You have not died, it is not true, instead
You seek adventure in some other place.
That you are round about me, I believe;
I hear you laughing as you used to do,
Yet loving all the things I think of you;
And knowing you are happy, should I grieve?
You follow and are watchful where I go.”

(Written by Marian Allen during World War l )

Two lines that I wish you to keep near your heart…….

“You seek adventure in some other place.
That you are round about me, I believe”

I did not know Jody, but he is my hero.

Hey Bro,
It has almost been two years since you left the earth. It feels like its been forever, time has passed but the pain never fades. I can't stop thinking while taking classes in college, that man Jody died to have this opportunity. I take my classes very seriously because of this. I don't know man, I'm able to do things that we always talked about doing, buying beer LEGALLY, and going to college. I just feel so mixed up like everything in this god forsaken world is pointless. I just wish you didn't die. I hate this empty feeling, like someones supposed to return and never does. I dunno man thought I'd sign this guestbook in your honor. Justin's still hasn't finished his 4 years, and Brandon is in Bagdad right now. I wish you never joined. I'm afraid all my friends will die in this war. I love you man, I'm sorry you'll never age with me and your friends. I WILL NEVER FORGET WHAT YOU DID. YOU ARE THE ONLY HERO I KNOW.

I lived in the neighborhood with Jody and his brother, I was one of the girls that had a big crush on Jody. Me & Jessica would always watch him play soccer in the field
and basketball at Daniels.It so hard to believe that he's gone. I know so many people will and have missed him, I give my condolences & prayers to his family and other friends, may Jody RIP~ Thank you so much Jody and the rest our troops for serving our country!!

August 19, 2007

There is nothing that I can say or do to take away the pain or bring you peace in your time of sorrow, but I will offer you and your family my heart felt condolences. I also offer you my prayers that in time the pain will easy and the memories of your HERO will carry you through each day and night. I want to thank your HERO, for his/her selfless act of becoming a member of the armed forces, his/her willingness to defend the United States of America, all that we hold sacred and for the sacrifice that will forever be etched in the memories of all those who knew him/her. Though tears can never bring him/her back, we hope that our tears express our gratitude for the sacrifice that he/she made and our sorrow at his/her passing. I believe for every fallen HERO there is a star shining brightly up above to remind us of the precious gift we were given.

Your mission on earth is complete and you are now a member of GOD’s Heavenly armed forces. Stand down brave warrior and take your rightful place in Heaven with all the HEROES who have passed before.

I made a special promise to LE RON A. WILSON, a dear family friend who joined the Army with three other friends, one of whom is my son (Le Ron was killed in action on 07/06/07 at the age of 18) on the day he was laid to rest as I touched his coffin, that I would never forget him nor would I forget those that gave their lives for our country before him, with him and after him and so when I came across www.legacy.com, I thought what a great way to keep my promise to Le Ron, so I will continue to leave tributes in each guest book until the day there is no longer the need to leave these tributes to a FALLEN HERO.

To Jody's family and friends: I am so sorry for the loss you are experiencing at this time. Our family just lost my nephew so I can relate to what you are going through. It is a terrible thing to bear and I know your hearts are heavy. I am thankful for the ones who are called to serve our country this way and accept the challenge. We are proud of their commitment to do whatever it takes to keep this country free! I believe that the Lord is coming soon and He promises that the dead in Christ will rise first and then we which alive and remain will be caught up in the clouds to join them and then we will all go to heaven. I look forward to meeting Jody on that day and thanking him. May God bless you and yours and keep you in His peace.
