John Layton Obituary
Lakeland - John Charles Layton, better known as Charlie, 73, of Lakeland, FL peacefully passed away on August 6, 2021. He was born May 28, 1948 in Columbia, SC.
In 1971, Charlie married Kathleen Lonergan in Fairfax City, VA. Charlie owned and operated several successful businesses over his lifetime, most recently Layton-Walker Auto Brokers for 40 years. Charlie attended Camden Military Academy, Lakeland High School and later graduated from Wofford College in Spartanburg, SC. He was a well-known and respected member of the Mulberry community and impacted many lives through his generosity, kindness, and selflessness.
Charlie enjoyed any day on the golf course, a frosty beer, and a good cigar. He is survived by his wife of almost 50 years, Kathy, his two daughters, Shannon (John) and Melanie (Skip), his two grandsons, Austin Layton and Clayton Powell, as well as his brother, Steve Layton.
Charlie was a loving husband, father, and grandfather. There never has been, nor will there ever be another like him. He will be missed deeply by all who were blessed to be in the circle of this wild but gentle soul.
A celebration of life is being planned for a later date.

Charlie was a part of my life since I was a baby. He was a close family friend, and an amazing soul. My heart goes out to Kathy, Mel, Shannon and the rest of the family.

i only knew him as Charlie I considered him as a very good friend who did me many favors. Up till a few months ago we met occasionally for lunch at a resturant on the southside of Lakeland . However during the last times i checked with him he said he was unable because he had to take care for his wife she was his number one priority.
