MADELYN MITCHELL Obituary

MADELYN S.
MITCHELL, 95
Homemaker

LAKELAND - Madelyn S. Mitchell passed away at home June 9th, 2015.
Born in Wallace, NC, 11/10/1919, she was raised in Wilmington, NC, and spent her childhood on Wrightsville Beach, NC, spending her days in her beloved Atlantic Ocean. She attended Washington University in Washington, DC, and began working as an executive secretary. She met and married Charles F. Mitchell while they were both working for the shipyards in Wilmington during WWII.
Moving to Florida, they settled in Lakeland. After joining First Presbyterian, she was tireless at working in the church where she wore multiple volunteer hats. She became interested in golf and held multiple jobs with that. She was President of Polk County Women's Golf Association, President of Lone Palm Golf Association and Cleveland Heights Women's Golf Association. She was also the first woman to be Member of the Year at Lone Palm. Her favorite was working with Polk County Junior Golf, organizing tournaments.
She was blessed to have passed at home, her wish fulfilled for her final days. She leaves behind her son Charles (Nick), daughter Lucinda (Cindy) Rowand, and her grandchildren Kendra Smith, Ryan Smith (Amanda) and great-grandchildren Kaylie, Ciara and Colton.
A Memorial service will be held at First Presbyterian Church on Saturday, June 20th at 2:00 PM.
In lieu of flowers please make donations to First Presbyterian Church or Little Shepherds at First Presbyterian Church.

My condolences to Madelyn's family. When I first came to Florida and joined Lone Palm she was so nice to me. I enjoyed playing golf with her and enjoyed knowing her. I feel sad that I had lost track of her in recent years. I liked her!

Mrs. Mitchell was a wonderful person. I have many memories of her taking my son Matt and Ryan on golf trips. She was a great grandma and I know she will be greatly missed!!
