VAN SCOTEN, 94

LAKELAND - Marilyn Van Scoten was a beloved mother, teacher, artist, and professional model. She died peacefully of natural causes Tuesday afternoon, May 1, 2012, with family at her side. She was 94 years old.
Marilyn was born Marilyn Mason in Delaware, Ohio on October 22, 1918. She received a Bachleor of Fine Arts at Ohio Wesleyan University, Delaware, Ohio. She was a Sergeant in the WACs and stationed at the Army Air Force base in Seabring and Hen-dricks, Fla. Mother met Dad, Max Van Scoten, while he was a pilot in the U.S. Navy. She was transferred to Santa Ana Air Force Base in California where they were married.
After the war, father joined Sears Roebuck, training in management and lived in Pennsylvania, New York, and New Hampshire. Mother taught art in local schools. They spent 22 summers in Madeira, Portugal before retiring to Lakeland, Fla. Mother was a docent at the Polk Art Museum for 9 years. She taught water aerobics. She loved playing golf and bridge. She was a member of the Florida Water Color Society. At the age of 82 mother became a professional model and even posed for Hallmark cards. She was a member of First Methodist Church and the Bykota Class.
She will be remembered by her family as a lady of great style. Her loving husband, Max predeceases her. Her children Linda and Chip, and Kirk are all married and live in Colorado and New York.
A memorial service is scheduled at the Estates of Carpenters, 1000 Carpenters Way in the auditorium at 2:30p.m. on Friday, May 4, 2012.
