Martin Friend Obituary

MARTIN "DEE"
DELONE FRIEND, 68
Owens-Illinois
(Brockway)

LAKELAND - Mr. Martin "Dee" Delone Friend, 68, born November 26, 1940 and passed July 30, 2009 at LRMC due to heart failure.
Dee, son of the late Susan Friend Paugh and Playford Friend, was born and raised in Friendsville, MD. During his late teens, Dee started work at Owens-Illinois (Brockway) Glass and remained there until his retirement in 1995. He enjoyed the outdoors, the beauty of plants and was diligent in his efforts to have a great yard to enjoy. His love of the water often led Dee to take his boat to one of Lakeland's many lakes and enjoy water-skiing or jet-skiing with his family and friends. He was also known as "Mr. Fix-it" as there was rarely a time that Dee could not master a task. He was a caring, generous man who wished only the best to all who knew him.
Dee is survived by his lovely wife, Mary Martha, son Jeffrey Delone and his wife Susanne and his beautiful grand-daughter, Kelsey Delone.
He is preceded in death by his parents and sisters; Helen Boyle; Amy Glover; Nina Drummer; Grace Molnar; Betty Jean Kell and brother Playford Friend.
He is survived by sisters; Ila Stout, Uniontown, PA; Bernice Chrise, Olmstead Falls, OH; Frances Friend, Friendsville, MD; Sarah Arlene Fazenbaker, Uniontown, PA; and brother Edward Friend and his wife Christa of Neptune, NJ.
A memorial service will be held to celebrate the life of Dee on Tuesday, August 4, 2009 at 11:00 a.m. at the Gentry Morrison Funeral Home, 5245 US Highway 98 North, Lakeland, FL.
In lieu of flowers, Dee would have preferred donations to The American Heart Association or The American Cancer Society.

Dear Mary, Jeff, & Sue,
So sorry to hear about Marty. We all had some really good times together that we'll never forget years ago in Country Oaks. (That was before Kelsey.) Luke & Clint really enjoyed his company too; all the boat rides were great! We'll all miss him very much. Your family will continue to be in our prayers. Much love,
