December 9, 2008

It has taken me than one year and six months to find the words or even thoughts that I wanted to say about my mom. The day after her death all I could do was wonder why God would take such a wonderful and compassionate person from this world and leave everyone else with the pain. Three months later Kyle and I were blessed with a baby and that could only have been because of her. You were my inspiration and my hero. Never in my life would I have thought that you wouldnt be here to see your grandchildren grow up. As a little girl you taught be to be independent and strong. As a young woman you showed me responsibility. As a mother you taught be to be patient and tolerant of Daltons ways. Thanks to you I am blessed to be the person that I am. I pray that you are able to see your grandchildren everyday, and that I am raising them with your approval. Mom I miss you more now than I did a year ago. I dont know how time is supposed to make your dying more easy to deal with, I think sometimes it actually makes it harder. Everyone said you were there to see Morgan and I graduate, Hannah's birth but that isnt enough for me. I will always miss our girls nights out, talking about the guys, and your voice on my good morning phone calls. Mom , I do so hope you know how much I treasured all that. I love you mom , and I miss you everyday.

As the little sister to Melody I am overwhelmed with the response in this guestbook. Melody would be so proud of everyone of you. Growing up with a sister like Melody was an honor, we shared a room for 17 years. That is a lot of laughing, sharing and crying. Melody was way more then just a big sister she was a wonderful mentor and a friend. She was always my rock, my sounding board and my protector. She always has been there for me.
I have added a few pictures in this photo album but I have created a page devoted to Melody on my website; chrystalgallantstandardpoodles.
I have several pictures and if anyone has special pictures please forward them and I will add them. I will keep this guestbook availiable for years to come as well.
My heart is broken and I miss her so much. Everyone can always look at this guestbook or my website when you need to see my pretty sister.
A Mockingbird will always sing for her, just listen.

John, Mary, Morgan and Family: Words will never be enough to describe the passing of one so loved by all. We each knew her in our on special way and she was very very special, to say the least. Melody was a sister to me. I am an only child and in 1956 when my mother (Ruby) was pregnant with me, my Aunt Fay was pregnant with Melody. There was a debate between Ruby and Fay as to who would have the new year baby for 1957, as Melody and I were scheduled for delivery late December, early January 1956/1957. I won, and I was the new year baby in 1957 in Winter Haven, Florida. However, Melody really won because she always claimed that she was older than me. She was born on December 30 (we were born 4 days apart). Although we were 4 days apart in age, we lived only 2 blocks apart, and our parents were brother (Dan) and sister (Fay). We shared our childhood and formative years together until the 7th grade when Melody, Darla and Aunt Fay moved to Gainesville. I have great memories of our times together. Melody had the grandest and most pleasing smile with laugh, (sometimes once she started laughing you couldn't get her to stop). We laughed a lot together. We watched the Beatles together in their first American appearence on the Ed Sullivan Show at her house. I remember a time when we went to the ranch and it was clear to me that Melody loved horses and they loved her. We were probably 10 years old at the time and I was watching Melody pet and groom a horse. I asked if I could try my hand and she said, the horse sometimes bites, so be careful. Well guess what? The horse bit me and I never liked horses again. How Melody could care so easily with the horse is a testament of her loving nature. Not only did people love her, but so did animals. When we were kids Melody always was twirling a baton. We joined the band together, and later she became a majorette. In 1974 I traveled to Gainesville to visit Melody and to see the Gators play at Florida Field. I was in awe when I saw her leading the Gainesville High School Band as the head majorette. Florida Field was filled to near capacity and to see her lead this magnificant band onto the field at this level made me so proud of her and explained why she spent so much time and worked so hard at twirling a baton. I could write a book on the good times we had together. We were always at the same family reunions, grandmother Bass's house, grade school and birthday parties. We had the same group of friends and played in the same neighborhood. We loved each other. Thank you Melody for all the great memories and I was so lucky to have a sister like you. Danny

With deep sympathy, I pray for your family. When I first met Melody a few years ago, my first thought was, what a beautiful person. Such a genuine smile. Such a great spirit.

With time these tears will be replaced with smiles of joy. Joy in knowing that she no longer endures the pain she faced everyday while fighting cancer. This I know after losing my mother at a young age to cancer also.

God bless your family for the loss of such a wondeful person. Take care.

John & Family:
I was so shocked and saddened by Melody's death. What a wonderful sweet lady! Everytime I would bump into her downtown Bartow, Bloomin Arts Festival, etc., she was always smiling and concerned for me & my family. Losing a spouse can be devastating... just when you're on your darkest day...and grief engulfs you..remember..God's power, love and strength will pull you back and the love and support of friends will sustain you. Hold tight to your memories. They are more precious than ever now. I will miss Melody very much. Prayers are with you, John, and your precious family.

God saw you getting tired,
When a cure was not to be.
So He wrapped his arms around you,
and whispered, "Come to me".
You didn't deserve what you went through,
So He gave you rest.
God's garden must be beautiful,
He only takes the best
And when I saw you sleeping,
So peaceful and free from pain
I could not wish you back
To suffer that again.

She was like a second Mother to me and she will always be missed, but we all will unite one day with her in a better place.

The words do not exist to describe the amazing and wonderful lady that was taken entirely to soon from her family and friends. She was an incredible woman who brought love and kindness to all those she came into contact with. It was impossible to feel uncomfortable, nervous or unwelcome when Melody was in the room. All I know is that the world would be a much better place if there were more mothers, wives and friends like Melody. With all my love and respect----
