Gail, Erin, Scott & Jimmy,
I am so sad to learn of Richard's passing. I have thought about you so much recently - your Christmas card came back. That and the fact that Jimmy and Matthew almost share the same birthday - Matt was 26 on Jan. 8. Wasn't Jimmy's special day Jan. 10? This past week you have especially been in my thoughts and I kept meaning to Google you guys. Today at lunch I finally made time and was overwhelmed when Richard's obituary came up. Wonderful memories came flooding back from Orange Hill Drive and Winter Haven! Thanksgivings spent together - tennis matches struggled through. I still put up that macrame Santa we made 30 years ago! Y'all loaning us your "big" car so we could drive to my brother's wedding and me getting a speeding ticket and trying to use my pregnancy to get out of it. Such dear friends and priceless memories. Although it's been decades, your friendship is as precious to me as ever. Consider yourselves hugged.
I love you all.

To the Martineau Family:

It was with profound sadness that I read of Richard's passing in the Ledger last week.

Richard worked with my husband, Kevin, at Arthur Anderson and Scotty's years ago.

I remember one day when I went to pick Kevin up and I was sitting in the car, there was a tap on the window and there was Richard. He told me he didn' want to tap too hard so it wouldn't startle me. He was truly a gentle man.

My thoughts and prayers are with you and your family.

With sadness,

Elayne & Kevin Fitzgerald

If you are very fortunate, you get to meet a couple of people like Richard in your life. When I first met him in jr. high in Gainesville, I immediately knew - everyone knew, he was one of those rare bright, classy people, with tremendous integrity. Best wishes to Gail and the wonderful Martineau family!

I am so sorry for your loss. I was a classmate of Richard's at GHS. This year is our 40th reunion and I was hoping to see many of our classmates then, Richard to be included. That will not be but I will be sure his name is brought up in rememberance. Too many have passed on already. Hope they are all having a heavenly reunion.

I first met Richard (then known as Dickie) when we were in kindergarten together in Myrtle Grove, Pensacola, FL. I was mortified one day when I spilt my orange juice on the table between us, and so grateful he didn't laugh. We continued through school together through sixth grade at Myrtle Grove Elementary, then my family moved to Gainesville for my father to attend UF. I was pleasantly shocked on the first day of eighth grade to hear his name called in science class at Westwood Junior High in Gainesville. We continued though school and both graduated in 1969 from Gainesville High School. I always felt Richard was born to a charmed life, and thought he was just one of the cutest, smartest, sweetest guys in school. My condolences to all of his family.

I knew Richard from the time of his membership in the Rotary Club of Cypress Gardens. I always thought of him being bright with youthful vigor. He was always a gentleman. I especially remember his obvious pride re: his children and would often see him with his boys at the the WH football games.....no doubt teaching them about sportsmanship and fair play. Although not having seen him for several years, I remember him vividly with fondness. He leaves an enviable legacy. Please accept my condolences.

I knew Richard at Gainesville High School in the '60s and again when we worked together at Scotty's, in the '80s. He was an extraordinary person... smart, personable, enthusiastic. I have thought about him often over the years, and I am very sorry to hear of his passing. I will always consider myself lucky to have known and worked with him.

I had the opportunity to visit Richard and his family in the fall of 2005 in Gainesville. I will always remember Richard's wonderful ability to cope with whatever problems that came into his life. He had determination, a good attitude and could always make something positive out of life's happenings.

I remember my nephew as a young child growing up in the Myrtle Grove Community of West Pensacola, and the summers our families would spend at Terry's Cabins at Gulf Shores, Alabama, where we would swim, fish, crab and enjoy the beautiful Mobile Bay.

I will always remember Richard as a caring loving person with a strong faith and tremendous love for his family.

To Gail, Hazel, Sherrie, David and their families our thoughts and prayers will be with you during this time of sorrow and loss of such a wonderful husband, father, son and brother. We thank God that he shared Richard with us, but if only for what seems like a short time. Russ and family

I have many good memories of all the Martineau family and especially of Richard and Gail at Gainesville High School in the 1960s. We shared many hours of classtime but friendships as well. Ken considered him a very good friend, a treasure. My sympathy and very best wishes to all of the family. Mary Sharp
