ZELMA BULLOCK Obituary

ZELMA T.
BULLOCK, 96

WINTER HAVEN - Zelma Bullock passed into the Church Triumphant on August 7, 2018. She was 96.
Zelma was predeceased by her husband Curtis, parents Frank and Maggie, brother Kenneth and sister Avonell. She is survived by her brother John F. Thompson; daughters Ava Vanyo, Patrice (Ron) Hatley and son Nathan (Raylene) Bullock; grandchildren Laura, Jonathan, and Barrett; and five great- granddaughters and many nieces and nephews.
Born in Haines City, Zelma graduated from Haines City High School and then attended secretarial school. She worked in Jacksonville for the State Board of Health; in Kissimmee as the office manager and book-keeper at a hotel and restaurant during WWII; and as office administrator, dispatcher and bookkeeper for the Polk Fertilizer Company. Zelma married Curtis in 1947, and a few years later started a family.
She managed multiple home and family relocations around the U.S. resulting from Curtis' career moves with IBM. She bloomed wherever she was planted. Zelma served in leadership roles in many churches along the way, teaching and leading children and adults. Zelma and Curtis sponsored and loved two Vietnamese refugee families in the 1970s. When they retired, Zelma and Curtis returned home to Polk County and settled in Winter Haven. She served as a Stephen Minister at Hope Presbyterian Church in Winter Haven. Her extended family will remember her for her faithful birthday and anniversary greetings, generosity and hospitality. She lived to care for others.
A memorial Service will be held on Saturday, August 18 at 11am, Hope Presbyterian Church, 2110 Cypress Gardens Blvd, Winter Haven, FL. In lieu of flowers, family suggests donations to Good Shepherd Hospice or Hope Presbyterian Church's Gardens of Hope.
