Judith Lane Obituary

Judith Avery Lane, a beloved teacher and devoted homemaker, passed away peacefully on May 19, 2025, at Hock Family Pavillion at the age of 84. Born on January 6, 1941, in Harnett County, NC, Judy lived a life characterized by her infectious smile and bright, sunny spirit. Her kindness and warmth touched everyone she met, creating an atmosphere that was both welcoming and classy.

A proud double major in French and History, Judy devoted herself to the education of her students and the nurturing of her family. Marrying her loving husband, Thomas William Lane, Sr., on July 14, 1963, they celebrated a remarkable journey together of 61 years and 10 months, weathering life's seasons hand in hand. Their union was a testament to love and partnership, and their family flourished under the strong foundation they built together.

Judy found joy in many aspects of life, including her family, her community, her warm hugs, and, of course, chocolate. She inspired not only those within her own household but also countless students throughout her teaching career, leaving lasting impressions and fond memories. She was a faithful member of Community Methodist Church and a devoted choir member, whose voice will be missed.

Judy is survived by her husband, Thomas "Tom" Lane; her daughter, Suzanne Elliott (Scott); her son, Thomas "Tommy" Lane, Jr.; her cherished grandchildren, Meredith, Sarah, and Ryan Elliott and extended family and friends too numerous to name. Each family member carries a piece of her legacy, holding onto her enduring spirit and the rich memories they created together.

She was predeceased by her parents, Blake Jarvis Avery and Clara Lee Draughon Avery, whose guidance and love helped shape the remarkable woman she became.

A visitation will be held on May 21, 2025, from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM at Gentry-Newell & Vaughan Funeral Home in Oxford, NC. A funeral service honoring Judy's life will take place the following day, May 22, 2025, at 11:00 AM at Community Methodist Church in Butner, NC, followed by a burial ceremony at Carolina Memorial Gardens in Creedmoor, NC.

Judy's sweet spirit will forever reside in the hearts of her family and all who were lucky enough to know her. Her legacy of love, warmth, and joy will continue to shine brightly. Flowers are welcomed or memorials made in her name to Community Methodist Church are met with sincere appreciation.

The Lane family is honorably being cared for by Gentry-Newell & Vaughan, 503 College Street, Oxford, NC 27565.
