Asuncion Puente Obituary
WESLACO - Asuncion "Chita" Puente, 68, loving mother, grandmother and sister, passed away February 5, 2009, at Knapp Medical Center in Weslaco. She was born August 28, 1940, in Saltillo, Mexico to Maximiliano and Felicitas Cancino. During her active years, "Chita" had volunteered 22 years to the Weslaco school district. She was very much involved with the Texas Migrant Council, the Weslaco I.S.D.P.T.A. and had accumulated over 20,000 volunteer hours for the school district. She co-owned Puente General Concrete with her husband, Pedro. She was also a member of St. Joan of Arc Catholic Church. "Chita" was preceded in death by her parents, her beloved husband of 44 years, Pedro S. Puente Sr. in 2006, and by her grandson, Paul C. Puente in 2007. She is survived by her loving children; son, Pedro Jr. (Eva) Puente; daughters, Patricia (Mario) Ramos, Priscilla (Tim III) Hernandez, Pamela (Miguel III) Gomez, Pauline (Jorge) Gonzalez and Peggy (Andy) Cavazos; 22 grandchildren and 1 great-grandchild. Also surviving are her brothers, Norberto Cancino, Maximiliano Cancino Jr., Johnny Cancino and Francisco Cancino; and a sister, Rosie Cantu.
Visitation will be held today, Sunday, February 8, 2009, from 3 to 9 p.m. with a rosary at 7 p.m. at McCaleb Funeral Home in Weslaco. A funeral Mass will be celebrated on Monday, February 9, 2009, at 10 a.m. at St. Joan of Arc Catholic Church in Weslaco. Interment will follow at Highland Memorial Park in Weslaco. Serving as pallbearers will be Pedro Puente Jr., Jorge Gonzalez, Sonny Gomez III, Andres Cavazos, Jr., Tim Hernandez and Peter Puente. Arrangements are under the direction of McCaleb Funeral Home of Weslaco.

My deepest sympathy with your loss. Chita was such a wonderful person who gave so much of herself for her family and friends. I remember all the hours that she spent volunteering for the school district and for her children's classrooms. She will be greatly missed. Hold on to all the wonderful memories that you have; they will bring you great comfort. May God Bless.
