CHRISTINE REYNOLDS Obituary

CHRISTINE LOUISE HOWELLS REYNOLDS
MISSION - In memory of Christine Louise Howells Reynolds, Librarian extraordinaire. It is with deep sadness that we announce that our beloved wife, mother, sister, grandmother, great grandmother, aunt and cousin could no longer battle her challenging health issues at the age of 63 on Sunday, June 3, 2012.
Christine (aka Chrissy Lou to her sisters, Mammie to her grandkids) was born on February 13, 1949 to Richard Kenneth Howells and Thais Louise Hardwick Howells in Pocatello, Idaho. She is survived by her wonderful husband, Darrial Reynolds; her children: Michelle (Jeremy) Hyldahl of Gig Harbor, WA; Dawn Schiers (Charles) of Eppstien, Germany; her precious 7 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren; her siblings Marci Howells of Tacoma, WA; Naida Webb (Vernon) of Dover, DE; and brother David Howells of Caldwell, ID; numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
She married Sydney Ellis in 1970 and was blessed with her two beautiful daughters. They later divorced. She met and married Darrial Reynolds in 1991.
Christine grew up in Boise, ID where she graduated from Borah High School in 1967. She continued her education at Idaho State University in Pocatello, ID, obtaining her Bachelors in Education in 1971 after eluding death from a sledding accident. She earned her Masters in Library Science from University of Arizona in 1995 while maintaining a 4.0 GPA.
After graduating from Idaho State University she started her library career at the Pocatello Public Library. Then, she became the Library Director of American Falls (Idaho) Public Library. Later, she became the head reference librarian for Marshall Public Library in Pocatello, Idaho.
In 2000, Christine and Darrial became Texans when Darrial accepted a professor position with South Texas College. Christine accepted the head reference librarian position for McAllen Public Library and retired as the Assistant Director in 2011.
Christine was an avid, reader, knitter and crafts person. She enjoyed her various craft clubs and the friends she made through these groups. She enjoyed traveling across the country and to Europe to visit with her children and grandchildren.
She was predeceased by her mother, father and grandparents. Christine is no longer experiencing her severe lifelong health problems, she is now resting in peace; an angel watching over all her loved ones.
In lieu of flowers, Christine requested that memorials be donated to the McAllen Public Library or library or other charity of your choosing. Her immediate family held a private wake in her memory. Her daughters are putting together a memory book and if any family or friends would like to contribute a special memory, please email your fondest memories to: [email protected]

Chris hired me as a Reference LIbrarian at the Pocatello Public Library right after I graduated from Idaho State University. We worked together for several years. One of the things that really impressed me about Chris was her great capacity to feel for others and then do something about it. I can't remember how many times she had non-family living in her home. What a great example!

From her time at the McAllen Memorial Library, Chris will be remembered by all the genealogists who have ever needed assistance from the reference desk and were cheerfully helped by her great understanding of exactly what was needed in an efficient manner at all times.

It is always hard for us to accept the loss of kind leaders like her, who led others by her sterling example of service to patrons in need despite having to contend with serious health issues. She was just as positive and outgoing on her first week on the job as her very difficult last week when every hour was a struggle to carry on due to the pain she was enduring.

There is a hymn she has heard that sums her up quite well, "Each life that touches ours for good reflects thine own great mercy, Lord; Thou sendest blessings from above thru words and deeds of those who love."
