Cristobal Salazar Obituary

Edinburg - Our beloved father, brother, husband, and friend, Cristobal "Chris" Salazar Jr. of Edinburg, TX, passed away on August 30, 2023, aged 72, leaving us to join his father, mother, and son.

Words cannot describe the greatness that was Chris to all of us accustomed to his larger-than-life personality. A man of unwavering principle and conviction, with Chris, you always knew where he stood, and likely where you stood with him. When he found a cause he believed in, Chris became an evangelist for it, and nothing would stop him from achieving his objective, including the halls of Congress. No matter the circumstance, Chris always made himself available to everyone in need of advice, laughter, or simply a shoulder to lean on, even if he had only met you minutes earlier. His zeal for life was surpassed only by his desire for socializing with friends, world travel, and an ever-evolving list of extracurricular activities. Chris impacted many lives while he built a community, left a legacy, and taught us the true meaning of life in the process. He was a remarkably resilient and loving individual whose absence will be forever missed.

He is survived by his wife Libertine Serrano Salazar; four children, Bernardo Andres Salazar, Veronica Christie Ruppar, Victoria Antoinette Salazar, Christine Landa Renee Salazar; a grandchild, Parker Harrison Ruppar; seven siblings, Esperanza Salinas, Consuelo Salazar, Esteban Salazar, Carlos Salazar, Eduardo Salazar, Elizabeth Wassinger, Ricardo Salazar; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his son, Nicolas Angel Salazar, and his parents Cristobal and Isaura Salazar.

Visitation will be held from 5 to 8 p.m. with a 6 p.m. rosary on Monday, September 4, 2023, at Memorial Funeral Home, 208 E. Canton in Edinburg. Funeral services will take place at 10 a.m. Tuesday, September 5, 2023, at Memorial Funeral Home Chapel. Interment will follow at Valley Memorial Gardens, 3611 N. Taylor Rd, Mission. Funeral services are under the direction of Memorial Funeral Home in Edinburg, TX.

To his loving family, we extend our sincerest condolences. I met Chris for the first time when I worked for Salazar Groceries back in the 60ties. We lost touch for years until we both became members of Los Lagos years later. We played a few rounds together and enjoyed our fellowship in a sport we both loved. May God bless his family with peace during this time of loss and sorrow. May he rest in peace.
