Elizabeth Liljestrand Obituary

McAllen - Elizabeth Ann "Liz" Liljestrand, 65, passed away on Monday, December 2, 2024, at McAllen Medical Center after a courageous battle with cancer. Liz passed peacefully, closely attended by family and friends who remained with her during her final days and hours.

Born on January 1, 1959, in Houston, Texas, to Charles Edward and Alma Eletha (Deggs) Liljestrand, she graduated from Edinburg High School and went on to earn a bachelor's degree in music from Pan American University.

During her lifelong career as a piano teacher, Liz's students went on to win local, state and national awards. As a member with the Magic Valley Music Teachers Association, she held a number of positions, including organizing the annual spring recital and the fall all-girls and all-boys recitals. She was also the McAllen chairman for the National Federation of Music Teachers auditions in the Rio Grande Valley. Liz sang with the Valley Symphony Choral for over 20 years.

Liz was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She served as music chairman, organist, choir director, pianist in the Primary organization (children's), and taught in the Young Women's organization (teens).

Liz had a passion for dogs which led her into training and competing at dog shows.

She was preceded in death by her parents and a brother, Robert Wayne Brunson (Kathy Harms).

Survivors include her siblings, James (Melinda Brann) Brunson of Midlothian, Texas; Charles Alan Liljestrand (D'Anne Iliff) of Lindale, Texas; Lisa Kay Liljestrand Silas (Bradley Silas), of St. Augustine, Florida; and 11 nieces and nephews and numerous grandnieces and grandnephews. She is also survived by numerous friends within her church and music families.

Elizabeth will be loved and remembered by family and friends that she always fought the good fight and did her best in what was placed before her. She will be missed, but family and friends find peace knowing she is now free from pain and has been greeted by her Savior, Jesus Christ, and is now reunited with family members who passed before her.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, December 7, 2024, at ¬¬¬¬¬11 a.m. at the McAllen Stake Center of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, located at 300 W. Trenton Rd. She will be interred at a later date.

I am deeply sorry for Liz's loss. liz and I were friends since high school and continued our friendship throughout the years. I visited with her at her apt during her illness amd treatments. I am very heartbroken that I did not know anything about her passing till I saw it on facebook today Dec 27. She has a very special place in my heart and I still can't believe it. She had a very innocent and kind heart and I yet was a mentally strong sole who never gave up. I'll miss you my friend. Rest in peace.

Ms. Elizabeth was my first-ever piano teacher from nearly 15 years ago. She was such a kind person and a fond teacher who had such an immense influence on my music career. All these years later I'm about to graduate high school and I'm singing with my Honor Choir at the TMEA Convention in February 2025; my musical experience, and all of the opportunities that have come along with it, can only be attributed to Ms. Elizabeth. I'm so thankful for you, Ma'am, and my family and I love you and will miss you dearly. Rest easy, rest in peace.
