Elva Guerrero Obituary

Weslaco - Elva G. Guerrero, 87 years young, entered eternal rest on Monday, October 13, 2025, at her residence in Weslaco, Texas. Although she lived a long and full life, Elva remained youthful in spirit, always full of energy, laughter, and love. She was born on December 7, 1937, to Guadalupe and Victoriana Guerrero in Donna, Texas, and throughout her life, she embodied strength, faith, and determination.

She is preceded in death by her parents; father of her children, Joaquin B. Guerrero; her daughter, Elia Guerrero; one great-granddaughter, Rory Anne Villarreal; two brothers, Samuel Guerrero and Pedro Muñoz; and one sister, Lupita Campbell.

Elva was known for her boundless energy, tireless work ethic, and unwavering dedication to her family and everything she pursued. She worked for Haggar's for ten years, where her reliability, discipline, and commitment were admired by all who knew her. In 1982, she returned to school and earned her GED from Weslaco High School, balancing her studies with her family responsibilities and demonstrating remarkable perseverance. Afterward, she worked at Kiddie Ko-Op Daycare from 1982 to 1985, where she discovered her passion for early childhood education and decided to open her own daycare.

In July of 1985, fueled by her vision and relentless energy, she opened Elva's Daycare, a place that quickly became a second home to countless children and families. Her daycare remained open for 40 years, until the day of her passing at age 87, operating with the same dedication, warmth, and joy that defined her life.

Elva was also a proud and active member of the Mid-Valley Childcare Providers Association for 35 years, where she built lasting friendships and shared her passion for early childhood education. Through her work, she touched generations of lives, offering each child a nurturing start filled with warmth, laughter, and love.

Elva cherished her family deeply and loved bringing everyone together. She began the family's New Year's Eve tradition of making buñuelos with her children and their families, which became one of their most treasured traditions. She was always ready for any holiday, joyfully decorating her home and Elva's Daycare inside and out, creating a warm and festive atmosphere for everyone she loved.

Elva enjoyed her weekends, whether it was shopping, getting her hair done, going out to eat, or attending St. Pius X Catholic Church with her children, always cherishing the time spent together. She also enjoyed her Tuesday visits to Keno's Café, where the staff knew her by name and greeted her with smiles and friendly conversation, making each visit a special time to connect with friends and neighbors.

Above all, Elva was a devoted and proud grandmother, always cheering on her grandchildren and great-grandchildren at their games, performances, and school events. She was often seen wearing a t-shirt supporting their teams and activities, especially as a loyal supporter of the Weslaco Panthers and Weslaco East Wildcats. Through her strong work ethic, boundless energy, and dedication, she inspired her granddaughters to be strong, courageous, and resilient women, leading by example in everything she did.

Left to cherish her memory are her seven children: Jorge Guerrero, Leticia Ballesa, Javier (Victoria) Guerrero, Roberto (Rosario) Guerrero, and Lupita (Roy) Villarreal, all of Weslaco, Texas; Elia Guerrero (Stephanie Moore) of Tampa Bay, Florida; and Graciela (Jose) Hernandez of Donna, Texas. She is also survived by one sister, Estela (Francisco+) Cerda; one brother, Santos (Ester+) Guerrero; 20 grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be from 1:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. on Thursday, October 16, 2025, with a 7:00 p.m. Rosary at Salinas Funeral Home in Weslaco. Funeral Mass will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, October 17, 2025, at St. Pius X Catholic Church in Weslaco. Celebrant will be Father Eusebio Martinez. Cremation will follow at Val Verde Memorial Gardens.

Pallbearers will be her grandsons, Daniel Guerrero, J.J. Ballesa, Justin Guerrero, Jose Luis Hernandez, Dominic Gutierrez, and Roy Villarreal, Jr. Honorary pallbearers will be Joey Ballesa and Roy Villarreal.

Elva will be remembered for her strength, boundless energy, tireless work ethic, and deep love for her family. Her laughter, kindness, and unwavering devotion to those she loved will forever remain in the hearts of everyone.
