EMILY HANSEN Obituary

EMILY SUE HANSEN MISSION - Emily Sue Hansen, 75, was born November 28, 1939 in McAllen, Texas. She was the daughter of the late Richard and Jewel Dillard Hansen and the granddaughter of Mission Pioneer settlers (1918) George and Tena Hansen. She passed away at Pax Villa Hospice February 12th after a nearly 50 year battle with Multiple Sclerosis. She graduated from Mission High School in 1957 and attended Oklahoma State University. She is survived by her nephew, Gary Hansen, of Morgan, Texas as well as other nieces and nephews in north Texas. Her Mission survivors include Carolyn Chesshir Bur, Dick Chesshir, and V.C. Stutz. She was also survived by many cousins across the U.S. as well as sorority friends. She also leaves behind her beloved pets. We wish to thank her faithful caregiver, Carmen Chavez. It was her wish to be cremated and her ashes be placed in the Hansen Family Mausoleum. Services will be held Tuesday at 2:00 p.m. at the mausoleum in Laurel Hill Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, it is suggested that memorial donations be made to The National Multiple Sclerosis Society, PO Box 4527, New York, NY 10163. Services are under the direction of Ric Brown Family Funeral Home of Mission. Sign the guest book at www.themonitor.com/obituaries

This is a beautiful picture of Susan. It reflects her loving spirit. She was a delight to be around. So full of love for life. I have many wonderful memories from our time together at Oklahoma State sharing in the Gamma Phi activities. I smile when I think of her.

A class act. Sue was one of my heroines when I was in Jr. High and she never lost that great wit and sense of fun. A neat and very special lady.

Sue became a Gamma Phi Beta sorority sister of mine at Oklahoma State University in 1958. I never once heard her complain about the life plan God gave to her. She became my hero over all these years as the MS slowly diminished her abilities and defenses. I honor her life and wish all of us could live with her grace and dignity and cherish each day of our lives, taking nothing for granted. On two visits to see Sue, my friends and I were fortunate enough to witness the love others also had for Sue. Thank you to Carmen, Carolyn, Chris, and her many other friends who showed so much love and care to her. A crescent moon was our sorority symbol and that crescent moon has been shining brightly the past few nights. I'll bet Sue has already planned a party for all the dogs and cats she has joined in heaven! Rest in peace, our friend!

Susan made an impression on me when I met her in 1957 at Oklahoma state university. Her quick wit and thoughtful self made for instant as well as a lasting friendship. Blessings to her. And thanks for the memories!

My memories of time with Sue date back to the 1980s in Santa Fe, New Mexico. Since that time I have met and enjoyed the company of many of her family and friends. Spending time at her bedside during her last week of life was difficult, but we did see a return of her courageous self between the rigors of hospital confinement. I am grateful for having known Sue. Sorry that departure for my home in CA will mean missing the planned services.
