Esteban Martinez Jr.

1927 - 2021

McAllen, Texas - MISSION - Esteban Martinez, Jr., 94, passed away Monday, December 27, 2021 at the Alfredo Gonzalez Texas State Veterans Home. He is preceded in death by his parents, Esteban G. and Mauricia Martinez, stepmom, Siria Martinez his loving wife Elva Y. Martinez, brother Jose Sotero Martinez, Sr. (Socorro), and sister Maria Elena Martinez. Esteban is survived by his brother, Jose Luis (Guadalupe) Martinez, Sr. his four children, Humberto (Piedad) Martinez, Esteban (Enedelia) Martinez III, Norma Linda (Alvaro) Martinez, Geno (Esmeralda) Martinez his grandchildren Christopher H. Martinez, Stephanie D. Martinez, Rick Manrique Martinez, and Celso G. Pacheco Jr. (Esmeralda), Janessa Martinez, and his great grandchildren Celso Angel Pacheco, III., Amore Lene Pacheco, and Araya D. Martinez. Esteban enlisted in the U.S. Navy during World War II. Upon his honorable discharge, he enrolled at Coyne Electrical School in Chicago. He returned to Mission and was the first in the Rio Grande Valley to pass the test and earn a Master Electrician License. Shortly thereafter, Esteban opened and operated Martinez Electric, electrical contracting, until his retirement. He was also very active with the Associated General Contractors of America in which he served in different capacities. Esteban's love for the electrical trade was so great, that he put retirement to the aside to work for McAllen Independent School District as their master electrician. He truly enjoyed working with his MISD colleagues. In his early years, Esteban served as a volunteer fireman for the Mission Fire Department. Esteban had a great love for baseball and was instrumental in helping in establishing the first City of Mission Farm League Baseball Program. People would always see him at the baseball games, showing his support. Every baseball season, Esteban's TV was tuned to his beloved Houston Astros. We wish to thank all the CNAs, nurses, doctors, and all the staff of the Alfredo Gonzalez Texas State Veterans Home who so lovingly managed his health. Visitation will be between 3:00 to 9:00 p.m. Tuesday, January 4 at Ric Brown Family Funeral Home in Mission with a Rosary at 7:00 p.m. The funeral Mass will be at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday, January 5 at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church in Mission. Burial will follow at Valley Memorial Gardens.
