FERNANDO SAENZ Obituary

FERNANDO SAENZ SR. WESLACO - Fernando Saenz, Sr. was called to be with Our Lord on August 13, 2013 at the age of 42. In spite of his strong will, courage and determination, he lost his battle to cancer. He is survived by his wife, Elsa; son, Fernando Jr.; daughter, Clarissa; his parents, Ruben & Tina Saenz; and sister, Veronica (Lupe) Alonzo. He is preceded in death by his grandparents: Julio & Isabel Hernandez, Herminia Saenz, Eliborio Saenz Sr., Bea Saenz, and his uncle Hector Saenz Sr. Fernando was born and raised in Weslaco by a loving Catholic family. He grew up playing sports, fishing and hunting. After graduating from Weslaco H.S in 1989, he attended The University of Houston, where he was a member of Pi Kappa Alpha Fraternity. He earned a Bachelor of Business Administration in Finance, graduating Cum Laude in 1993. After working in the public sector, Fernando decided to return to Houston to pursue a law degree. In 1999 he graduated from South Texas College of Law with a Doctorate of Jurisprudence and returned to Weslaco to serve his community. Fernando began his law career working with local attorneys and ultimately opened his own practice, The Law Office of Fernando Saenz. He then went on to earn a Master's Degree in Public Administration from the University of Texas-Pan American in 2004. Fernando was an active member of St. Pius X Catholic Church, the Knights of Columbus and the Weslaco Rotary Club. Fernando was a proud father and faithfully supported his children's scholastic and extracurricular activities. He loved to travel with his wife and children, and shared countless special moments with them. Fernando touched the lives of many people through his work, generosity, kindness, and simply by sharing his genuine smile. To those who truly knew him, he was a fun-loving, simple man from humble beginnings who worked hard to become a successful attorney. Fernando will be remembered as a loving father and husband, a remarkable son, the best brother, an unforgettable uncle, nephew, cousin, brother-in-law, son-in-law, and a true friend. He will be greatly missed, but not forgotten as he watches over us from above. A sincere thank you is extended to all who have supported Fernando and the Saenz family over the past few months through prayers, gifts, cards, medical care, and words of encouragement. Visitation will be held today, Thursday, August 15, 2013 from 12:00 pm to 6:00 pm at McCaleb Funeral Home. A holy rosary will be recited at 7:30 pm at St. Pius X Catholic Church in Weslaco. A funeral Mass will be celebrated on Friday, August 16, 2013 at 10:00 am at St. Pius X Catholic Church in Weslaco. Entombment will follow at Highland Memorial Park in Weslaco. Arrangements are under the direction of McCaleb Funeral Home of Weslaco. Sign the guest book at www.themonitor.com/obituaries

A couple weeks ago I found this page and it saddened me, but made me happy to see nothing but great things said about my dad. Today is his birthday, and I am so blessed that I had a father like him. Although he was only in my life for 13 years, he taught me the most important trait a human being can have and that is being kind and smile. I think about you everyday Dad and although it has been rough at times without you, I hope that one day I can reunite with you, hug you and tell you all the things I have accomplished in my life. We all miss you, but I know you are looking down at us from heaven proud of Me, Mom and Especially Clarissa. There is so much more I can say, but I will leave it short! You will never be forgotten Dad. We love you.

It has been several years since I have seen Fernando but I am saddened to hear of his passing just the same as if I had seen him yesterday. My thoughts and prayers are with the many family and friends who have counted this a terrible loss. But to be absent from the body is to be present with the Lord! 2 Cor 5:8. We can rejoice in that comfort.
