GILBERT RAMIREZ Obituary
PHARR - Gilbert Ramirez, 68, died Tuesday, September 7, 2010, at McAllen Medical Center.
Born in San Juan, Mr. Ramirez had lived in Pharr most of his life. He was a graduate of Pharr-San Juan-Alamo High School and Pan American University and was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force. Mr. Ramirez worked for Valley Federal Savings and Loan and also served on the P-SJ-A I.S.D. School Board for nine years.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Reynaldo and Rafaela Ramirez; and three brothers, Leonel Ramirez, Samuel Ramirez and Reynaldo Ramirez, Jr.
Mr. Ramirez is survived by two daughters, Marissa (Marko) Alanis, of McAllen, Dina (Oscar) Rivera, of San Antonio, Texas; three grandchildren, Diego and Juliana Alanis, Emilio Rivera; a brother, Arturo Ramirez, of San Antonio, Texas; and three sisters, Blanca Aguilar, of Pharr, Sara Garces, of Colorado Springs, Colorado and Herminia Contreras, of Chicago, Illinois.
Visitation will be held from 5 to 9 pm, with a 7 pm rosary today, September 8, 2010, at Memorial Funeral Home in San Juan. Funeral service will be at 10 am Thursday, September 9, 2010, at St. John the Baptist Catholic Parish in San Juan. Private family burial will take place at a later date.
In lieu of flowers the family requests that monetary contributions be made to the American Cancer Society.
Funeral services are under the direction of Memorial Funeral Home in San Juan.

Dad, I can't believe it's been ten years since you've been gone. It seems like only yesterday. I miss you and I'm so sad that you aren't seeing your grandchildren grow up into beautiful, amazing young men and women. I remember you most vividly in "vacation" mode. My memories are all of us in Las Vegas, Lake Tahoe, New Orleans. Thanks for being such a great provider and a wonderful advice-giver. I love and miss you dad in heaven. May the Lord keep you.

Dad, I thought about you today when I saw a jacket like the Member's Only jacket you used to wear. I miss you very much. Thank you for everything you did for my sister, Robin, and me. Our thoughts and prayers are with you. Gilbert and my brother "Pipe" were very close friends and we got to know Gilbert very well. He was so kind and always concerned about me when we was also very sick. I will always remember him with much love. He was a wonderful man and a good friend to all. Ramirez Family, Please accept Our deepest condolences on the loss of Gilbert. My wife and I were in school with Gilbert, I played football with him when we were in High School, and we graduated together 50 years ago. He always had a smile whenever we saw each other. May God's Peace be with you knowing he is in Heaven where there is no pain. GOD BLESS YOU!!!

Gilbert, my dear friend, it's been a long road but now you're home and free. In spite of your situation you never complained. It was difficult to go to the office the last time I was home and not have you there. We had many good years working together and a great friendship. marissa, dina, may the wonderful memories of uncle gilbert carry you thur this sad time. he had been a great comfort to me and my family these last few years as we kept in constant contact. we loved him for the good loving and giving person he was. hope he is celebrating with grandpa grandma and his brothers who all were waiting for him with open arms. god bless all of you and your mom.

Our condolences to our cousin Gilbert's daughters and family members. Gilbert and I met in Jr. High..Edison, in Pharr. Tx. Because of our similar last names, we started a fun questioning session and were delighted to learn we were in the same family. He and I met up from time to time and he always had a smile and a "hello Prima" greeting. Our love and our prayers are with all the family

I was saddened to hear of Gilbert's passing. Gilbert and I were in the same class at PSJA High School. I always remember him as a very friendly and kind person. My sincere condolences go to all family members and may God help you through this difficult time.

Gilbert was the quarterback when I was playing football in high school. He was a leader then and as I ran into him over the years, he stayed a leader. He was a good man and I know the sorrow his family is feeling.....Jim Schroeder

Gilbert was one of the finest examples of the friendship and kinship felt by those of us who grew up in the Valley, especially those of us from Pharr, San Juan and Alamo. My deepest condolences to the Ramirez family. Gilbert and I met at Pan American in the early 60's, and we always maintained a good relationship as we worked for different financial institutions. Gilbert, was a good friend, and he will be missed. May our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ open heaven for Gibert, and may He take him into His loving arms.
