IRASEMA CANTU "IRA" MISSION/ LA GRULLA, Texas - Irasema Cantu "Ira" passed away on Wednesday Nov. 5, 2014 at the Amara Hospice Living Center in Edinburg at the age of 51 yrs. She was born on July 22, 1963 in Hoopeston, Illinois to Victor Cantu Sr. and Anestacia F. Cantu. She lived in Mission for many years. Ira, as she was known to many, worked at the Alto Bonito Elementary school with the Rio Grande City I.S.D for 32 years."Ira" was known to be very giving, very thoughtful, and carried a BIG heart. She was always there for her family. She was a big time fan of the Dallas Cowboys, a true loyal fan till the end. "Ira" will be dearly missed but never forgotten by her family and the many friends that came to know her. She was preceded in death by her father Victor Cantu Sr. Left to cherish her memory is her husband- Jaime Mendoza, her three children; Joanna I. Mendoza, Alejandra J. Mendoza, and Jaime Mendoza Jr. her mother Anestacia F. Cantu, her brothers and sisters; Victor Cantu Jr. (Elizabeth), Norma Martinez (+Amador), Felix Cantu (Maribel), Maribel Cantu, and Perla Cantu. Also numerous of nieces and nephews. The Family will be receiving friends and family on Thursday Nov. 6, 2014 from 10:00 am to 9:00 pm at the Hernandez Funeral Chapel of Peace, 701 East Eisenhower, Rio Grande City. The recital of the holy rosary will be prayed at 7:00 pm. Viewing will continue on Friday from 10:00 am to 2:30 pm at which the funeral procession will depart to the Holy Family Church, 107 E. Private Lazaro Solis St. in La Grulla for a 3:00 pm mass. Burial will follow to the Cantu Cemetery in La Grulla. The Cantu family wishes to express a gratitude to the many friends and family that were supportive to "Ira" and her family throughout her illness.
