Iris was a bold, outspoken woman. This led to her election by her fellow teachers to multiple stints as campus representative to the DLPAC and other committees. Teachers, whose timidity prevented them from speaking up, knew that their concerns would be heard if they told Iris. She would persistently ask questions until she got answers.
Iris was entertaining. To instantly find Iris in a crowded room, all you had to do was listen for the laughter. Her stories, jokes, and comments, kept those around her in stitches.
Iris was social. Games, dances, parades, U.I.L. events, it seems that whatever school activity was taking place, Iris was there. She encouraged student involvement in community activities and organized field trips to expose students to the world outside Donna, Texas.
Iris was generous. She helped organize and/or participated in many fundraisers, food drives, clothing drives, etc. to help the less fortunate. She donated to many causes, and purchased items from almost every student fundraiser.
The greatest loss in Iris's passing is to future students, who will never get to hear her words of instruction, redirection, encouragement, and praise.
