Jorge Garcia Obituary

Palmview - Mayor Jorge G. Garcia at the age of 91 passed away peacefully on Wednesday May 24th, 2023 at his home as was his wish. He was a man of few words but always spoke with wisdom.

Mayor Garcia was a U.S. Army Korean Conflict veteran who proudly served his country, state, and the city of Palmview which he founded in an attempted to insure minimal taxation. Mayor Garcia valued a day's work and maintained a strong faith in his God almighty. As the founding father of the city of Palmview, he expected less government, less taxes, on the taxpayer. Mayor Garcia demanded responsible spending which ensured that the quality of life was always improving for the citizens of Palmview. Mayor Garcia's leadership enabled the city of Palmview to maintain the lowest tax rate during his twenty-year tenure, but still enabling small and commercial development to thrive within the city. The city of Palmview for years lead the development of commercial, residential, and small businesses in the western part of Hidalgo County. For example, Auto Zone, Walgreens, Little Caesars, Rio and Lone Star Bank, Whataburger. But he was most proud of the HEB grocery store. Mayor Garcia, you did your job! This is what vision and dedication can accomplish. Mayor Garcia felt pride when he would hear folks referring to the city of Palmview as a city with low taxes, friendly staff, and the desire to help its residents. Mayor Garcia will always be remembered as one who gave all to his community. His advice, wisdom and legacy are one for the ages.

Mayor Garcia served his country during the Korean Conflict; he served as a member of the La Joya board of trustee and 20 years as mayor of the city of Palmview. As Mayor Garcia would say "I love my God, my country, my family and I love the city of Palmview". The citizens of Palmview will see you again mayor.

Consoling my heavy heart with memories that will never fade is a burden of grief that will never subside. An uncle who lived well, laughed often and loved much leaving the world better than what he found it. As Mayor, he served this community and duty to his country always looking for the best in others and gave the best he had.. Rest in Peace, Tio
