Mission - Juan Vicente De La Garza, 76, passed away June 24, 2017, at his residence in Mission, Texas due to losing a lengthy battle against cancer.

Preceded in death by a daughter, Melissa De La Garza; 56 siblings, Lilia Flores, Rebeca Ochoa, Aracelia Garza, Luisa Perez and Jose Santos De La Garza.

It is with great sadness that we announce the death of Juan Vicente De La Garza. He was a great family man, friend, brother, uncle, husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. He served his church community as a member of St. John of the Fields Catholic Church as an Usher, Eucharist Minister, and a church committee member for over 30 years. He enjoyed gardening, hunting, dancing, BBQ cooking, clowning around, doing mechanic work at home and spending quality time with his family. He was very devoted and proud of his grandkids, seeing them growing up and jokingly laughing with them. He was also an avid antique collector and became quite skilled at making pan de campo with his former 3G Team at the Fall Church Jamaica for many years. He was a former mechanic at Smiley Grove Care for over 30 years.

He is survived by his loving wife of 56 years, Refugia (Cuca) Perez De La Garza of Mission; three children, Vicente (Susan) De La Garza of Colorado, John David (Mandy) De La Garza and Melinda De La Garza; six grandchildren, Suzette De La Garza of Colorado, Amanda (Ernesto, Jr.) De La Garza-Gonzalez of Austin, Stephanie De La Garza, John Taylor De La Garza, Mathew Castillo and Josiah Guzman; one great-grandchild, Andres De La Garza of Colorado; and a brother, Manuel De La Garza of Waco.

Visitation will be held from 3 to 9 p.m. with a 7 p.m. rosary today, June 26, 2017, at St. John of the Fields Catholic Church Parish Hall, 1052 Washington St., Mission, TX 78572. Funeral mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Tuesday, June 27, 2017, at St. John of the Fields Catholic Church in Mission. Interment will follow at Granjeno Cemetery in Granjeno. Funeral services are under the direction of Ric Brown Family Funeral Home of Mission.
