Mario was a classmate at UTPA, a friend, and a customer when I worked as an advisor for Nissan. I was very sorry to hear about his passing. Rest in peace brother. If there is any solace, Mario truly lived the 44 years he was granted. He positively influenced those around him. You will be missed my friend. May God bless you. My condolences to the Cantu family. My condolences to the Cantu Family. July 23,1995 was a great year when Border Patrol Academy Classmates 290 met one another, became friends, trained and graduated in December 1995 (19 1/2 years ago). We all went to different sectors and the years went by quickly. The last time I saw Mario was on Highway 77 north of Raymondville, Texas where we were working an operation out there and we bumped into each other in early 2000. Mario will always be a friend and will be missed. God Bless

I'm so sorry for your loss. Mario was a true person who cared for people. I know this because I worked with him at a non-profit agency. He helped many people with disabilities find employment in the community and I know they are grateful to him for that. He was a hard worker, dedicated, God fearing, great listener, and friend. He always made sure we were all ok at the office and checked up on us when he knew we were stressed about something. I will always be thankful to him for helping me as well in growing in my career. He will truly be missed. May God comfort you all during this difficult time. You are in my thoughts and prayers.

I lost contact with Mario once I left Eagle Pass but there many fun memories that I have from our days at the academy and post academy. He was a great person, fun to be around. Mario and I met while we were working on our Masters. We were both in our 40s and so we somehow related and became instant friends. We had all our classes together, worked on projects together, studied for exams together. He always had very interesting questions in class; Mario was so bright and intelligent. We called each other “brother” and pushed each other to do better. Mario chose a counseling career because he wanted so badly to give back to others, to lift them up, and give them hope. I loved making him laugh and he would always poke fun at me for being on facebook during class. We talked of working on our PhD program; we were just waiting for that right moment. My last communication with him was in December. He was helping me deal with a suicidal client. I could always count on his wisdom and strength. It hurts so much to say goodbye. My deepest condolences to all his family and friends.
