Mercedes - Michael Tomas Yanez was born on January 11, 1973 and passed away at South Texas Health Center McAllen on August 22, 2023, at the age of 50. Michael was a graduate of Mercedes High School Class of 1991 and was an avid golfer and basketball player for the Tigers. He was previously employed at Austin ISD, Mercedes ISD and was employed at Mission ISD as a security guard till his death. He carried a class III security guard certificate with the Texas Department of Public Safety and was proud of the fact that he was protecting our communities' children and school staff. He enjoyed playing golf and working as a marshal at Tony Butler Golf Course in Harlingen, Roy Kizer and Jimmy Clay Golf Courses in Austin. Micheal was also a certified umpire and referee for the Austin and RGV chapters. Michael was supportive of his local and Austin chapters. He watched the Austin umpires when they came down to call games in the Valley. That's Michael - "For the Love of the Game."

Michael was and always will be remembered as a faithful Longhorn and Mercedes Tiger fan. Michael enjoyed watching his nieces and nephews compete, making sure he could watch them and cheer them on. HOOK EM! GO FIGHT! WIN! TIGER NATION!

He is preceded in death by his daughter Danielle Michelle Yanez, Grandparents Francisca E. Yanez, Tomas Yanez Sr., Ferguson H. Wood & Modene V. Wood. , Aunts & Uncles José A. Yanez, Angelita Guajardo, Josefina Villarreal & Virginia Ramirez, & Lloyd "Pete" Martin.

Michael is survived by his parents Ramiro "Coach" Yanez Sr., Janet Wood, & two brothers Ramiro (Criselda) Yanez Jr, & Jesus Javier "Jesse" (Melina) Yanez, nephews & nieces Valerie Del Toro, Ramiro Macias, Jade A. Yanez, Ramiro Yanez III, Scarlette R. Yanez, Joseph Jett Yanez, Delyla D. Garcia, Jesus Javier "Jesse" Yanez Jr., Jonah Jacob Yanez, Jacoby Malachy Yanez, & Jalen Myles Yanez.

Aunts & Uncles Mary Yanez (Felipe) Franco, Ofilia Yanez Zamora, Tomas (Rosie) Yanez Jr., Ester Yanez (Paul) Gates, Javier (Thelma) Yanez, Janice Wood, Betty (Wayne) Watson, Shirley Lange & numerous cousins.

Visitation will be on Wednesday, August 30, 2023 from 1:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. with a rosary at 6:00 p.m. at the funeral home chapel. Funeral Mass will be on Thursday, August 31, 2023 at 10:00 a.m. at Our Lady of Mercy Catholic Church. Interment will follow at Highland Memorial Park in Weslaco under the direction of Garcia & Trevino Funeral Home of Mercedes, TX.

I heard that Michael has passed away. Please accept my condolence.
Michael was an awesome guy and he will be missed.
A few of his football players when he used to coach football here in Kyle are very sadden of Coach Mike (as they called him); they also send their condolences.

Hello , Mike worked a lot of baseball games with me . He became my brother in baseball. I will miss him. He was always smiling. Mike you told me you were coming back this year to umpire , but god had other plans for you my friend. One thing that I will always remember from you was telling bread and butter.
