OLGA MENCHACA Obituary

OLGA GUERRA MENCHACA McALLEN - Our beloved mother, grandmother and great grandmother, Olga Guerra Menchaca, 83, went to meet our heavenly Father on Wednesday, June 25, 2014, at Lifecare Hospital. She was born April 27, 1931 in Reynosa, Tamaulipas to the late Federico Guerra of the San Roman Ranch in Starr County and Olivia Moreno de Guerra of El Charco in the state of Tamaulipas. Olga was predeceased by her loving husband, Fidel Menchaca. As Matriarch of the Guerra family, she survived all of her siblings: Guillermo Guerra, Blanca Ontiveros, Hector Guerra, Guadalupe Guerra, Imelda Salinas and infant sibling Marianela Guerra. She is survived by her four children; Federico (Diana) Guerra, Adriana (Dr. Samuel) Garcia, Francisco (Mardy) Guerra, Alma (Bill) Crawford; 14 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren. Surviving her as well, her loving and faithful caregivers, Lilia Gutierrez and Elvia Coronado. Proverbs 31:10-12 ~ An excellent wife, who can find? For her worth is far above jewels. The heart of her husband trusts in her, and he will have no lack of gain. She does him good and not evil all the days of her life. Olga received her Cosmetology license at the early age of 14. She owned a beauty shop in Reynosa and Valle Hermoso. She then married her first husband Francisco Guerra, Sr., the father of her four children and moved to McAllen, TX in 1951. Eventually she became a single mother of four children working various jobs to support them. She remarried in 1972 and worked together with her husband Fidel managing several coffee shops, the last one being the Hidalgo County Court House in which they retired in 1994. Proverbs 31:20 ~ She extends her hand to the poor, and she stretches out her hands to the needy. Olga was a volunteer for the Food Bank, Salvation Army, "La Liga del Hogar." She served the community diligently. Proverbs 31:26 ~ She opens her mouth in wisdom, and the teaching of kindness is on her tongue. Olga was a member of the Church of Christ. She was a true and faithful servant in the ministry of teaching the word of God to children. Her knowledge of the Word was so instilled in her daily life that she could recite any scripture from memory and heart. My deepest sympathy to Olga's beloved family. I have the warmest memories as I grew up next door to her. Her faith and smile was radiant as her hospitality was sweet. She loved God, she loved people. It was evident and an invitation to all as she shared her life. Olga and Fidel will never be forgotten. God be with you all as you remember those precious memories.

From the Pena family,
With love,
Joann

I met Olga at the hidalgo county coffee shop that she and Fidel ran. Where she pretended to take my money for the sake of Fidel & always handed it back to me. Years later I had the honor of escorting her & Fidel on a few church outing singing hymns as we drove what a voice she had! I always requested "He lifted me up" in Spanish
El me levantó" He has lifted her up where she is no doubly singing in His presence!
