Rene,
Even though you have been gone for several years now, I still think about you often. You were a great friend to me. You always greeted me with a smile and even though a lot of time had passed between our visits, you always acted like no time had ever passed between us. I remembered how you always wanted me to tell you about what I was doing in my life and I always felt I could trust you with my secrets. You could dole out advice without sounding preachy by saying Have you ever thought that perhaps..? You could always bring a new and fresh perspective to any situation because you could see the good in people. You were a hopeless romantic and dreamed of having someone to love. You had so many dreams for yourself and it pained me you couldn't make some of them happen during your life. And I cheered you on for those dreams you did make into reality. You were my special friend and I miss you terribly. I will never have another friend like you in my life.

As the mother of a child with SMA, my heart goes out to the Requenez family. Rene served as such a source of inspiration for my daughter and family. We were blessed to know Rene and learn from him during the brief moments we were able to talk. I deeply regret not making the time to learn more from his incredible wisdom. I find comfort in knowing that he is free of pain and limitations as he sits by God's side, and I know with all my heart that my daughter Cayce has gained a special guardian angel as she continues with the many challenges that face her here on earth. Please know that Rene and your family will remain in my thoughts and prayers.

Raquel, Hermilo. and Hector:
Friends, Believe that God will bring with Jesus those who have fallen asleep in Him. According to the Lord's own word, assuredly I say to you that we who are still alive, who are left till the coming of the Lord, will certainly not precede those who have fallen asleep. For the Lord Himself will come down from heaven, with a loud command, with the voice of the archangel and with the trumpet call of God, and the dead in Christ will rise first. After that, we who are still alive and are left will be caught up with them in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air. And so we will be with the Lord and with Ren forever.
Please stay in touch with me -

I was saddened to hear the news of Rene's passing. We had a special bond with each other since we both had MD. I was often asked if I was Rene or if I went to UTPA at the same time Rene was enrolled. Both of us being involved with MDA, VAIL and other advocacy groups made us aware of how much we could contribute to the pursuit of changing peoples lives. God Bless
