SANDRA CHAVEZ Obituary

SANDRA LOU CHAVEZ "I have fought the good fight. I have finished the race. I have kept the faith." 2 Timothy 4:7 RIO GRANDE CITY - Sandra Lou Chavez peacefully entered into eternal rest on December 29, 2013 in her home after courageously living her final three years with ALS, known as Lou Gehrig's disease. She was surrounded by her loving family and friends. Daughter of Renato and Elma Chavez, Sandra was born on November 25, 1966, in Roma, Texas. She graduated from Rio Grande City High School in 1985 and subsequently enrolled in The University of Texas at Austin. After completing two years there, she transferred to University of North Texas in Denton, Texas, where she earned a Bachelor of Science in Clothing and Textile Science with a minor in Marketing in 1989. Sandra worked as a Technical Designer for many companies throughout the country including Haggar Corporation in Dallas, Texas, Brand Name Apparel in Pharr, Texas, Harley-Davidson Corporation in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, Sears Corporate in Chicago, Illinois, Free-lance work in New York City, New York, The Children's Place, Disney Store, and Guess by Marciano in Los Angeles, California. She is preceded in death by her paternal grandparents Pedro and Josefina Chavez, and by her maternal grandfather Nicasio Guerra. In addition to her loving parents, Sandra is survived by her sister Velma Perez (Arturo), brother Renato Chavez, Jr. (Alicia), nieces Julia Perez, Olivia Perez, and Alyssa Chavez, and nephew Carlos Chavez. Also surviving Sandra is her maternal grandmother Benita Guerra. The family wishes to extend their gratitude to Gloria Rodriguez, Cameron Gillett, and Dr. Jorge Escobar of Legacy Hospice, and to Victor Aguilar of Liberty DME. A special thank you is also extended to Sandra's caregivers Adriana George, Edith Montoya, Josefina Arevalo, Mari Arizpe, Raquel Garza, Hilda Cruz, and Sara Mejia for the exceptional quality of care they gave her. Also, a most sincere thank you to Sandra's friend from childhood who unrelentingly demonstrated true friendship, Jose Transito Rivas. Visitation began at 5pm on Tuesday, December 31, with a Rosary at 7pm. There will also be visitation hours from 1-9pm on Wednesday, January 1st, with a Rosary at 7pm. Funeral Mass will be at 11am on Thursday, January 2, at Immaculate Conception Church in Rio Grande City. Burial service will follow at Roma City Cemetery.
