Simon Ramon Obituary

SIMON RAMON
MISSION - Simon Ramon, 87, born February 18, 1922 passed away June 26, 2009 in McAllen.
The life story of a person is not easily summarized, and the story of someone great, a true man's man that lived his life to the fullest is even harder. Simon Ramon was a father, a brother, husband, and our grandfather, but he also filled many other roles. He was definitely a character and more importantly, a giver. He made people realize amazing things that were going on in the world, seriously no matter how much older he got, he always kept up with current events, or who was running for what office, and never hesitated to tell us who we should vote for or what events we should be concerned about. He made us laugh, he made us understand, he made a life for all of us. He was proud to say that he always told the truth! A real business man if you know what I mean, one that had faith that God would help him through it all, and he did.
In his youth, Simon Ramon grew up from humble means in a small neighborhood in Cuevitas, Tx. The eldest of twelve children, he was smart and used his business savvy to begin building successful businesses, one being a store, a restaurant, a gas station, and real estate ventures, among his many endeavors. As a bachelor in his twenties, he later fell in love with a young woman named Gumecinda Garcia, who he would later marry and share his life with. Simon and Gumecinda had four children, 2 boys and 2 girls, Adela, Simon Jr., Omar, and Maricel, a charismatic family that never left a dull moment in their lives, or to those that knew them well. Simon soon had quite a handful, and loved every moment basking in the time he had with his family and his children's lives. He never faltered in being completely involved with every family member, making sure to help everyone in any way he could. He would give up his last penny, or share a plate with someone if necessary. He once had a silver dollar from the same year as his birth, 1922, a valued lucky charm, but didn't have change one day to give his little brother lunch money, so he decidedly gave it up to make sure he had what he needed. Here was a man that loved the ranch, loved taking care of his family, loved life.
Later in life he experienced trials and tribulations, but joy and accomplishments as well. Through the sour there was also the sweet moments he will take with him into heaven, where he will continue to be our father figure, our rock, and our beloved grandpa that lives on in our hearts and memories. I know that he will now be able to go to a new McDonalds every day if he wants to, talk shop with his compadres, drive his little black Toyota wherever he wants, as slow as he wants, drive by my dad's job sites to check in on him, and look down on his children and grandchildren to make sure they're doing well, tell us in our hearts how proud he is of us, and then brag to his friends in heaven how greatly accomplished his family is, better than everybody else's. Eulogy by: Patty Ramon, granddaughter.
He is survived by his wife Gumecinda Ramon of Mission, children Adela (Gilbert) De la Garza, Simon (Belia) Ramon Jr., Omar (Delpha) Ramon and Maricel Reyes; grandchildren Patty, Pamela, Penny, Peggy, Becky, Gilbert, Omar and Simon III; great grandchildren Dylan, Ashton, Jade and Louie. He is also survived by his sisters, Vicenta R. Montemayor, Arcelia R. Faria, and Rosa R. Flores; brothers Oscar Ramon, Eliseo Ramon and Apolonio Ramon.
He is preceded in death by his parents Jose and Dolores Ramon, brothers Leandro Ramon, Jesus Ramon, Jose Ramon, and Roberto Ramon.
Visitation will be held today, Sunday, June 28, 2009 from 1:00 pm to 9:00 pm with a rosary service at 7:00 pm. Funeral mass will be held Monday, June 29, 2009 at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church at 10:00 am. Burial will follow at Valley Memorial Gardens Cemetery. Services are under the direction of Ric Brown Family Funeral Home of Mission.

From Randall and Delia Curlin (Montemayor-Ramon)

Hope you may find comfort in your hearts at this time of sadness. I am sorry for the passing of my uncle, but I am thankful that he lived as long as he did. He out lived Mama Lola and Papa Pepe. He indeed was a good man and very generous person. He has returned back to Our Heavenly Father and is reunited with his parents and some of his siblings once again.

Our prayers are with you today and always.

Love, Delia Montemayor Ramon-Curlin
