William Sutton Obituary

McAllen, Texas - William Blaylock Sutton, 79, of McAllen, Texas joined his Savior and Lord on February 2, 2022. He was born on August 10, 1942 in Little Rock, Arkansas to Richard Otto and Bettye (Blaylock) Sutton. Bill attended Baylor University where he played football and received a degree in Business Administration in 1964. After being ordained to the ministry at the Southern Baptist Convention in 1965, he continued his education in faith at the Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary in Fort Worth. He received a Master of Theology, 1982 and a Doctor of Divinity, 1984 from the International Theological Seminary in Orlando, Florida. Bill married Martha Eugenia Davis of Memphis, Tennessee in 1968.

Bill began his ministry at North Hopkins Baptist Church in Sulphur Springs, Texas. He served as a pastor for churches from Florida to Texas with his most recent calling at Trinity Baptist Church in McAllen. Bill's passion in life was seeing people come to know Jesus Christ as their Lord and Savior. One of the many highlights of his ministry was studying the Bible and applying Christ's teachings to their lives in relation to their family, their friends, and their employment.

Bill's summer months were always reserved for Martha, family and friends enjoying Lake Bemidji in northern Minnesota.

Bill is survived by his wife Martha. They were blessed with three sons: Blake of McAllen, Texas; Bryan (Kimberly) of Lubbock, Texas and Stephen (Kerrin) of McAllen, Texas; grandchildren Beau, Stone, Walker, Sailor, Whitley, Graham, Major and Knox; sister, Virginia (Fred) Caffey of Martinsville, Virginia and brother, Richard (Dianne) Sutton of Mount Juliet, Tennessee.

A memorial service will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, February 12, 2022 at the First Baptist Church, 1200 Beech Avenue, McAllen, Texas. A viewing will be available in the sanctuary prior to the memorial service at 9:00 a.m. Interment will be at the Memorial Park Cemetery in Memphis, Tennessee. In lieu of flowers, a gift to the Gideons International would honor Bill's legacy of sharing the Good News.

I sang at First McAllen several years ago with Mike & Faye Speck. Bro Bill and his family made such an impression on me. I met tgem all once but the main word I can use to describe them all is that of Godly servants. I've remembered them all this time. I'm sorry for the hole left in the family, the church and everyone who knew him. But, we don't sorrow as others do. We have the blessed hope of meeting again. Heaven is getting sweeter all the time.

Dear Martha and boys, So sorry to hear of the passing of Bro. Bill, but we know that he is kicking up gold dust of the streets of heaven. He was one of the very favorite pastors in our lives. He married our oldest daughter, Cheryl and Richard Craft in Windsor Park Baptist Church, some 38 years ago. They are still together and working for the Lord in their current church. We are sending Gideon Bibles, in Bro. Bill's honor. Our prayers are with you and your family.
Yours in Christ, James & Joyce KIrkpatrick
