William Arthur "Bill" Vandenberg

1944 - 2023

Palmview, Texas - Long Time Valley resident William Vandenberg, 79, of Palmview, left this world on July 18, 2023. Bill was born in Danville, Illiniois and attended Purdue University and the University of Southern Maine. He is survived by his brother Bob, sons Will and Jason, daughters Maggie and Mollie, and six grandchildren, who he loved very much. He was preceded in death by his dad Wilbur, moms Bertha Mae (Lichlyter) and Edith (Tuggle), and sister Barbara. A man of faith and a proud American, Bill relished his service to this country in the Navy, which allowed him to explore this beautiful world on the wings of a P-3, in assignments throughout Europe, the Caribbean, and Maine, where he met his first wife and mother of his children, Judy. He loved sports, and in his younger years was an accomplished tournament darts player. Bill loved fast cars and BMW motorcycles, as well as animals of all shapes and sizes. He will be missed greatly by friends and family alike. Donations can be made in his name to The Wild Animal Sanctuary, wildanimalsanctuary.org, a place that brought Bill peace and happiness. Funeral services will be held at the Rio Grande Valley Veterans' Cemetery on Thursday, 3 August at 1000.
