Harold Salter Obituary

SALTER, HAROLD L., age 95, of Mt. Pleasant, passed away Friday, January 12, 2024, at his home surrounded by his family and his faithful companion, JoJo. Funeral Services for Harold will be held at Clark Family Funeral Chapel on Thursday, January 18, 2024, at 11 a.m. with Benjamen Evers officiating. Burial will take place at Chippewa Township Cemetery, with a luncheon to follow at Reflections Reception Center. The family will receive friends on Wednesday from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the funeral chapel. Memorial contributions may be made to Mid-Michigan Hospice. Envelopes will be available at the funeral chapel. Harold was born February 29, 1928 in St. Louis, Michigan, the son of Albert and Martha (Hopkins) Salter. He graduated from Shepherd High School with the class of 1946. On June 12, 1948, Harold married Yvonne DeMoines; she preceded him in death April 7, 2017. Harold, aka "Salty Dog", worked for Dow Chemical for over 30 years, retiring in 1985. He was a member of the Local Union 1205 Steelworkers. In his retirement, Harold kept busy helping his family with building and remodeling projects. He was very talented at woodworking; many family members have projects that will be treasured for many years. Harold loved fishing, hunting, and camping. He and Yvonne were always willing to help people in need, opening their home many times throughout the years to family in hard times. Harold is survived by his son Garret (Vickie) Salter of Shepherd; daughters, Karen Lada of Mt. Pleasant, Roxann (Mark) Sawade of Lake Isabella, Kendra (Marino) Pertot of Breckenridge; 13 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; 7 great-great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. Harold was preceded in death by his parents; wife Yvonne; daughter Connie Stallings; sisters Blachi and Flosse; brothers Miland, Deloss, Leroy, LD, Ervin, and Charles. The family would like to extend their appreciation to Mid-Michigan Palliative Care, Mid-Michigan Hospice, nurses Amanda and Holly, for the excellent care Harold received.
