RUSSELL, Kelly Jo (Schaub) Age 52, died on Christmas Day, 2016 after a hard-fought, six year battle with ovarian cancer. She was 52. She was a proud graduate of Breckenridge High School, Class of 1983, and even played Powder Puff Football one year. She wanted to be a paramedic ever since “Emergency!” and Squad 51 came to the rescue on TV in the ‘70s, and fulfilled that wish by joining Mobile Medical Response in Alma, Mich., saving lives with a dedicated team. She was a wonderful wife to John Russell for almost 20 years and doting mom to Madelin for 14. These roles were the highlight of her life. She was a devoted daughter, loving sister, thoughtful niece, beloved cousin, and generous friend. She was the essence of everything good. Her family wishes to thank all the medical staff who worked diligently to fight off Kelly’s cancer, but especially the caretakers at Masonic Pathways who walked her through the last weeks of her life. They made her laugh, helped her work hard, and brought comfort when she needed it most. Instead of sending flowers, call your mom and tell her you love her, play Scrabble or Rummikub with your children and grandkids, get a hold of your sister/brother and remind them of the time you (fill in the blank)--then have a belly laugh (repeat once/month), send your out-of-town family/friends a note or care package to make them feel special. She was preceded in death by paternal and maternal grandparents Marvel and Ilah Schaub, and Audrey and Helen Derry. Kelly is survived by her husband John, daughter Madelin, parents Wayne and Beverly Schaub, sister Tina (Eric) Breasbois, brother Corey (Chris) Schaub, nephews Austin and Kyle Smith, Conner and Cody Schaub, cousins Judy, Randy, Janet, Tim, Chris, Dan, Donna, David, Rhonda, Ryan, aunts and uncles Marilyn, Larry, Sondra, Raymond, Pauline, Linda, Ronald, Dan, Joanne, Mike, Lorna, Marty and more dear friends than any person could hope for. Viewings will be at Lux and Whiting Funeral Chapel in Breckenridge, Mich. on Tuesday, December 27, 2-4 and 6-8 p.m., and Edgewood Church of God, Wednesday, December 28, 10 a.m. until time of service. Following the 11 a.m. Funeral service, Kelly will be interred at the Lafayette Township Cemetery in Wheeler, MI. Memorials may be made to Edgewood Church of God.
