Matthew Larson Obituary

Matthew James Larson, age 45, died February 16, 2021 in Portland Oregon. He was born in Seoul, Korea April 24, 1975 and named Yu Shin-il at birth. Matt was adopted at 10 months old by the Larson family. He was preceded in death by his adoptive parents, Reta Larson, Larry Larson, and sister Amy Larson. He is survived by adoptive mother, Victoria Chevoor (Jeffrey Holoweiko), sisters Jennifer Larson (Erica Hernandez), Lisa Darnell (David Podewell), Kathryn Chevoor, brothers Chad (Molly) Darnell, Alex Chevoor, step-mother Sandra Larson, as well as many aunts, uncles, and cousins. Matt graduated from Laingsburg High School in 1993 and entered the Army shortly thereafter. He graduated at the top of his class from Basic Training. He received his Bachelor's Degree in Exercise Physiology from Lake Superior State University in 2011. He was a proud Army Veteran, loved Taekwondo, weight lifting, golfing, and hiking. He wrote poetry and enjoyed spending time with animals. Matt was a loving son, brother, nephew, cousin, and friend who will be deeply missed. Celebration of Life virtual service was held on September 12, 2021 at 3pm. Interment in Flint Memorial Park. Memorial contributions may be given to your local homeless shelter.
