Michael Tobin

1928 - 2023

Michael Gregory Tobin passed away November 12th, 2023, surrounded by his loving family.

If you knew Mike, you knew his sparkly eyes and big smile.

He made lifelong friends from his childhood in Detroit, his lifetime in Alma, his time in the Army and as a National Guard Captain, his years teaching math to middle schoolers, coaching baseball, basketball, football, and playing sports.

He was a dedicated member of St Mary's Catholic Church in Alma. He was among the first group of althetes inducted into the Alma High School Sports Hall of Fame.

He loved to hear a story and tell a story and he especially liked a good joke, as long as it was on the PG side of things.

If you knew Mike, you also knew his love of food. He drove his family all across the country and up through Canada and down through Mexico. He would recount those trips with tales of how big the ice cream cones in Banff were, or the size of the hot dog he had in North Dakota.

Mike married his childhood sweetheart, Pat Medler Tobin, and raised four children in a big yellow house on River Street.

After Pat passed away, he married Betty Hall and they enjoyed their life in Alma and Florida.

After Betty passed, Mike moved to Charlevoix and joined his daughter Kris' family. He was well known in Charlevoix as he shoveled snow and mowed the lawn, all while greeting everyone that passed by.

Mike will be missed by his four children and grandchildren as well as his sisters Tillie Kreft and Pat Pioszak. He will also be remembered fondly by many nieces, nephews, friends,former students and athletes.

Mike's children, Kathy (Ken) Kendall, Denise (Pat) Dennehy, Tim (Judy)Tobin and Kris (Jay) Balasz invite you to join them at 11:00 on Saturday, December 2nd at Mt. St. Joseph Catholic Church in St. Louis, Michigan as we celebrate Mike's life. Service with luncheon to follow. Be sure to bring a favorite Mike Tobin memory.
