Shaw , Patricia Ann "Pat" Age 80, of Ashley, MI passed away Thursday, May 11, 2017 at Masonic Pathways Alma, MI. Funeral Services will be held at Smith Family Funeral Homes Ithaca, MI on Tuesday, May 16, 2017 at 11:00 A.M., with Pastor Dave Perry officiating. Burial will take place at North Star Cemetery, North Star, MI. Visitation will be held on Monday, May 15, 2017 from 2-8 P.M. with family present from 2-4 & 6-8 P.M. at the funeral home and for one hour prior to funeral service on Tuesday. Pat was born in Ashley, MI on November 27, 1936 the daughter of Willard Thomas and Esta Beatrice (VanNote) Goodhall. She was the salutatorian of the class of 1954 of Ashley High School and resided most of her life on Nelson Road in Ashley, MI. Pat married Grover A. Shaw on June 24, 1954 at the North Star Church of the Nazarene. They were married nearly sixty-three years. According to Pat, she was a "farmeress" both as a daughter and wife for 80 years. Pat learned to play the piano at a very young age and played for countless weddings, funerals, church services and 4-H style reviews. She served as a 4-H and Girl Scout Leader. Pat was Hamilton Township Clerk/Trustee for 30 years. She was a secretary for John Thomas at Farm Bureau Insurance and retired after 25 years. Pat was very involved in her church and served as organist, pianist, youth leader and directed many different singing groups, including "Cousins for Christ". She was involved in Gratiot County Chapter of MADD. She was a member of Edgewood Church of God Ithaca, MI. Pat is survived by her husband Grover, and 4 children: Janeen (Bryon) Bafs of Angola, IN, Penny (Rich) Bartley of Voorheesville, NY, Tina (Todd) Vohwinkle of Mattawan, MI, and Eric (Brenda) Shaw of Riverdale, MI; 13 grandchildren: Heather (Andrew) Huth, Andy (Cassie) Wymer, Christy (Jeff) Staiger, Jeremiah (Beth) Conklin, Katie (Matt) Latham, Greg (Heather) Wymer, Tony (Jaclyn) Vohwinkle, Tammy (Rique) Romero, Ben (Mercy) Shaw, Tiffany Vohwinkle, Bryon Shaw, Emily Shaw, and Elizabeth Shaw; 13 great grandchildren: Josh, Lexi, Shayla, Maisey, Braylon, Lincoln, Lily, Eddie, Dreyden, Roman, Lola, Julian, and Easton; sister Phyllis (Paul) Harp, sister-in-law Marie Goodhall, special niece Carrie Murgittroyd, and special nephew Dave Harp. Pat was preceded in death by her son Gregory, her parents Esta and Willard Goodhall, and brother Herb Goodhall. Memorials may be made to the Salvation Army, Edgewood Church of God, Lukemia/Lymphoma Society, or the Arbor Day Foundation. Pat often quoted her mother by saying, "It's a GREAT life... if you don't weaken!" The family is being served by Smith Family Funeral Homes, Ithaca, MI. I’ll forever remember getting piano lessons from Pat at a very young age. While I didn’t continue on playing myself, it gave me a great appreciation of a good pianist and the music they create. Thanks Pat.
