Richard Stauffer Obituary

Stauffer, Richard Wallace; of Pleasanton, TX died November 12, 2014 at the age of 63. Rick is survived by his wife, Sue (Briggs) Stauffer of Pleasanton, TX; son, Jabbar Briggs of Wellington, Colorado; daughter, Shannon Miller of Ballwin, Missouri; brothers, Gordon Stauffer of Vacaville, CA, and Stephen Stauffer of Alma, MI, and sisters, Cathy Hoffman of Cedar Springs, MI and Carol Roberson of Alma, MI. Richard is preceded in death by his parents, Wallace and Joan (Coffin) Shook Stauffer. Rick took everything that cancer could throw at him with amazing strength, grace, charm, and good humor. He did everything possible to prolong his time with us, but in the end, cancer won. He died peacefully and without pain. A Memorial Service will be held at a later date not yet determined. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that you get an annual eye exam. It could save your life.

There are so many fond memories with Rick. If he were here, he would likely resist reading about himself - he did not like being generic nor boxed into a category. But I am now safe to do so. Rick was a remarkable friend, most brilliant mentor/colleague ever and most of all, an inspiration. He was my role model in enjoying life and embracing hardships with laughter, wit and tremendous tolerance. Even when bad days occurred to Rick, he never let anything bad stick to him. He had an amazing ability to adjust in every situation and get along with all. His brilliance in engineering and other subject matters is unparalleled. And he shared his gift of knowledge with me and others generously without ego or expectation. It was a running joke at work that Rick's list of things he didn't know was a blank paper. He was broad-minded in his viewpoints and loved to spur discussions. I pray that the pain his family and friends are feeling fades but that the memories of Rick and his lifestyle keep us all smiling and inspired.

R - I am going to miss the uncensored ranting to you about work, esp. on Fri drives to Houston, knowing you will say something witty to make me laugh and move on. You would love to tell me otherwise on this one - I pray and take comfort knowing that if you are, you will be blessed with eternal bliss wherever you are.

Rick Stauffer, RIP

Rick was cremated Tuesday and came back home yesterday. At some point, I'll bring him back home to Michigan to scatter his ashes. To all who commented on his smile, note that he is still smiling at us. This is his urn.

Some of my fondest memories of Rick are of all of us playing at the farm, at Grandma and Granddad's, and our house, swimming at Bass Lake, and family gatherings for the holidays. Rick was always so much fun and such a sweet boy. I remember being amazed at how smart he was, and what interesting things he knew.

My thoughts and prayers go out to you, Carol, Gordie, Cathy, and Steve.

I remember when Rick moved to Guam when his mother remarried. I lost my first best friend. Though we tried to keep up correspondence, the letters died out. When he returned to Alma later on in high school, I remember chuckling that his dagger scar was still there on his cheek. I thought it was cool when we were young and still did later. It looks like you had a full life, buddy. Thanks for touching mine.
