Sally Gushen Obituary

Age 72, of St. Louis passed away Thursday, February 11, 2021 with her family by her side. She was born March 30, 1948 in Alma, Michigan the daughter of Lester and Thelma (Garber) Fenner. A proud Huskie, Sally graduated from Breckenridge High School in 1966 and always enjoyed reconnecting with classmates over the years. A few years after graduation, Sally met Rolly Gushen at a New Year’s Eve party and they married on July 27, 1968 in Breckenridge. Sally worked for a variety of employers over the years including Dow Chemical Company and Total Petroleum. She retired from the City of Alma as a Dial-a-Ride driver where she was a favorite by many riders, young and old. Sally’s favorite and best job though was “mom”. Sally loved her girls immensely and took great pride in them. She was a devoted wife and loved her grandsons and great-granddaughter beyond measure. Sally had a deep sense of family. She was close with her parents and had fond childhood memories of growing up on the farm. Some of her best times were with her siblings. Sally was soft spoken, loving and had a sharp wit that she often used when you would least expect it. Sally’s other loves over the years included traveling to warm climates, sunbathing, boating, weekend gambling and shopping trips with girlfriends, dancing, holiday celebrations, and good times at the cabin. She was admired for being classy, keeping a beautiful and spotless home, her infamous potato salad, her beautiful smile, and her kind and gentle spirit. Left to cherish her memory is her husband of 52 years, Rolly; daughters Jill (Scott) Anderson and Jodi Ross; grandchildren Keith (Maddie Fisher) Anderson and Jase (Kamrie Filipiak) Anderson; great-granddaughter, Addysyn Anderson; siblings Diane (Jerry) Jones, Bob (Carol) Fenner and Peggy (Jim) Thompson; and many admiring nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents. A memorial service for Sally will be held at Tuesday, February 16, 2021 at 11 am at the Lux and Whiting Funeral Chapel, Breckenridge. Visitation will be held Monday from 3 to 7 pm at the funeral chapel. Interment will be in Oak Grove Cemetery, St. Louis at a later date. Memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association. To view Sally’s obituary or to leave a condolence for the family please visit www.luxfuneralhomes.com.

Aunt Sally was always so nice to me when I was growing up. She would always notice when I made the honor roll and encouraged me in my studies.
We always enjoyed getting together with Sally and Rolly and their family. Sally and Rolly made the trip to Troy to come to our wedding reception in 2004 along with Jodi and Jill. We spent time at their cottage and on their pontoon. Sally was very generous with her hospitality and made us feel welcome. From the moment Mary met her, she said that Sally reminded her of her Aunt and the close relationship they had. We had the pleasure of hosting Sally and Rolly in Knoxville. We had a wonderful time talking about family and St. Louis. Mary and I will miss Sally deeply and our fond memories of her will never go away. Our condolences go out to Rolly, Jill, Jodi and their families plus all of the extended family and friends. Jonathan and Mary Gushen
