Shirley Snell Obituary

March 26, 1937 - Aug. 5, 2013

Shirley Daisy Snell, age 76, of Breckenridge, went to be with her Lord on Monday, August 5, 2013 at Masonic Pathways in Alma.
Funeral Services will be held on Friday, August 9, 2013 at 11 a.m. at the Emerson Presbyterian Church with Pastor Peggy Ronk officiating. Interment will be in Ridgelawn Cemetery, Breckenridge. Visitation will be held on Thursday, August 8, 2013 from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. at Lux and Whiting Funeral Chapel in Breckenridge and on Friday from 10 a.m. until the time of services at the church. Memorial contributions may be made to the Emerson Presbyterian Church.
Shirley was born on March 26, 1937 in Gratiot County the daughter of Arthur and Beatrice (Childs) Houlden. On October 20, 1990 Shirley married Dale Snell at the First Presbyterian Church in Alma.
She was a former owner of a Model-T and member of the Central Michigan Old Car Club. Shirley worked as a secretary for the Gratiot County Intermediate School for 32 years and spent 7 years working for the Valley Shopper.
Shirley had a very caring heart and was always willing to help a friend in need. She enjoyed yard sale shopping and especially loved traveling. Shirley was a faithful member of the Emerson Presbyterian Church.
Shirley is survived by her husband, Dale of Alma; a sister, Brenda Fisher of Traverse City; and a brother, Tony Lockwood of Kansas.
She was preceded in death by her parents; and a special uncle, Carl Childs.

During the summers I worked with Shirley and the Intermediate School District office in Ithaca. She was so kind and giving. We had many laughs while working together. She will be missed.

I first met Shirley and Dale two years ago by becoming their neighbor in Breckenridge,they were the nicest people you ever could meet,and warmly welcomed me to the neighborhood.Shirley loved the Tigers,and always made sure she called me to let me know when they were playing.I'm thankful for the friendship i found with Shirley and Dale.God Bless you Dale,hang on to all the beautiful memories of the years you and Shirley had together,and know you will see her again.
