Theresa Cwiek Obituary

Cwiek, Theresa L. (Ploski); age 94; of Mt. Pleasant and formerly of Detroit; passed away Monday, March 14, 2016, at the Isabella County Medical Care Facility. A Funeral Mass for Theresa will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church with Father Don Henkes presiding. A luncheon will follow immediately at Charles R. Lux Family Funeral Home. She will be laid to rest in Caseville Township Cemetery at a date to be determined. The family will receive friends at Charles R. Lux Family Funeral Home on Friday from 4 to 8 p.m. with the Vigil beginning at 7:30 p.m. Visitation continues at the church on Saturday one hour prior to Mass. Memorial contributions may be made to Polish Museum of America (984 N. Milwaukee Ave., Chicago, IL), or Sacred Heart Parish. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home and the church on Saturday. Theresa was born April 1, 1921, in Hamtramck, daughter of the late Kazimierz and Stanislawa (Olesczynski) Ploski. In 1930, at the age of nine, she moved with her family to Poland. She returned to the Detroit area in 1942 as part of the WWII prisoner exchange program. On June 16, 1945, she married the love of her life, Mitchell Cwiek in Laredo, TX, where he was stationed as a Sergeant of the United States Army Air Corps. They raised their family in Detroit and also had a place in Lake Township until she moved to Mt. Pleasant in 1987. She wintered in Florida. Some of her favorite pastimes were cooking, sewing, embroidering, and singing. Theresa is survived by four children, Christine (Charles Currey) Knight of Kolbermoor, Germany, Michael (Karen) Cwiek of Clawson, Mark (Patricia) Cwiek of Mt. Pleasant, and David (Maureen) Cwiek of Grosse Pointe Woods; eight grandchildren; and several great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Mitchell in 1996; grandson, Steven Cwiek; and siblings, Richard Ploski and Irena Orzechowska. Aunt Theresa and Uncle Mitch, as we knew them, were great friends of my parents, Bob and Alice Chylinski, through many years.
Although not truly related, they were as much a part of our family as real aunts and uncles.
I'm very sorry to hear of Aunt Theresa's passing and my condolences to the family
