Cassandra "Cassie" Jo Smith
VENUS, PA: Cassandra "Cassie" Jo Smith, 28, of Route 157, Venus, died Saturday, October 1, 2011, in an automobile accident.
Born June 22, 1983, in Fremont, OH; she is the daughter of Cody G. Smith of Fremont, OH and Wendy K. Bauer of Venus. Cassie was a 2001 graduate of East Forest High School. She was a residential aid for Training Towards Self Reliance in Callenburg. Cassie was a member of the Clarion Eagles Ladies Auxiliary and American Legion in Clarion. She loved the outdoors and the woods. Cassie enjoyed camping, fishing, crafts, and playing Texas Holdem. She enjoyed people and loved her dog, Monroe, and her brother, Mike.
In addition to her parents; she is survived by a brother, Michael E. Smith of Fremont, OH; a maternal grandmother, Judy Schlea of Fremont, OH; two cousins, Tony and Colin Distefano; an aunt, Carol Hoffman of Florida; and six uncles, Dave Hoffman of New Jersey, Vince Distefano of Cooksburg, Glenn Smith and his wife, Sandy, of Woodville, OH, Andy Smith of Fremont, OH; Joe Smith of Fremont, OH, and Jeff Smith of Fremont, OH.
She was preceded in death by her maternal grandfather, Lowell D. Schlea; her paternal grandparents, Lillian Auxter and Glenn V. Smith; and two aunts, Georgetta Distefano and Marge Hillie.
Family will receive friends from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. on Tuesday, October 4, 2011, and from 10 to 11 a.m. on Wednesday, October 5, 2011, at the Robert V. Burns Funeral Home, 638 Wood Street, Clarion. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, October 5, 2011, in the funeral home with Rev. Josh Peck, pastor of the Venus Evangelical Church, officiating.

I have never actually met Cassandra. I am the on call supervisor at TTSR, so I've only ever spoken to her on the phone, though I did that pretty frequently. I'm very sorry for your loss, she was a good employee and a genuinely good person and I will certainly miss hearing her chipper voice on the other end of the line. Cassie and I were best friends growing up when I came home from Germany this last time I went down N River Rd where we grew up together and I laughed remembering all the crazy wild things we use to do and how many grey hairs we must have gave you and my parents Cody. And I remember begging her to stay in Ohio at the end of summers and not go back to PA because I would miss her..As adults we would talk about getting together whenever I came home but we were both so busy that we kept missing each other. Cassie was my best friend growing up at the end of every summer before she went back to PA I would beg her to stay in Ohio the last time I came home from Germany I went down N River Rd and seen the old Rathfelder farm house where she use to live and laughed so hard about all the grey hairs we must have gave our parents.
