Annette Breuer Peter, 94, of Elizabethtown, died Tuesday, June 20, 2017, at Oaklawn Nursing and Rehabilitation in Louisville.
Mrs. Peter was born in Cleveland and lived more than 50 years of her life there. She was the widow of the late Ulric J. Peter, owner/operator of McDonald restaurants, who came to Hardin County in 1973 and was followed by Mrs. Peter and family.
She was the daughter of Elmer Carlton Breuer and Marie Mares Breuer, who were pioneers in the motor trucking industry in Ohio. She attended parochial schools in Cleveland and was graduated from Flora Stone Mather College of Case Western Reserve University. She taught home economics in Maple Heights, Ohio, High School.
During World War II, she was married briefly to 1st Lt. Robert J. Podojil, an U.S. Army Air Forces B-24 pilot who was killed in action over Germany in March 1945.
Mrs. Peter was also a bookkeeper for her parents' trucking companies and later was president of the Elmar Co. and the Breuer Associates, real estate holding companies.
In Ohio, she was active in the Christ Child Society, The Carmelite Guild and was on the board of the Mather Alumnae Association.
In Hardin County, Mrs. Peter was active in the Tuesday Bridge Club, the Widows' Bridge Club, was past president of the International Group of Fort Knox, served as an officer of the Radcliff Woman's Club, was a charter member and president of the Potted Few Garden Club and served more than 20 years as its publicity chairman, was treasurer, recording secretary and financial adviser to the Garden Club of Kentucky and belonged to the Elizabethtown Woman's Club and the Fort Knox Spouses and Community Club. She also belonged to the Hardin County Republican Woman's Club, the Jefferson Club of Louisville and was an honorary member of the Military Officers Women's Association (MOAA) and to St. Christopher Catholic Church of Radcliff.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Ulric Joseph Peter; a grandson, Jeffery C. Peter; a sister, Virginia C. Metzner; and a cousin, Eileen Noack Horgan.
Mrs. Peter is survived by three sons, Ulric B. Peter (Michelle) of Simpsonville, Carlton B. Peter of Radcliff and Jeffrey B. Peter of Elizabethtown; three grandchildren, Jonathon B. Peter (Emily) of Louisville, Ulric B. Peter II (Amber) of Louisville and Carra D. Shupe of Hodgenville; five great-grandchildren, Cayden Peter, Jessie Shupe, Elizabeth Peter, Kate Peter and Luke Peter; a special cousin, Dr. Janice Noack Gummersbach of St. Louis, Missouri; and numerous nieces and nephews.
A Mass of Christian burial is at 11 a.m. Saturday, June 24, at St. Christopher Catholic Church in Radcliff with the Rev. Leo Craycroft officiating. Burial follows in St. Brigid Cemetery in Vine Grove.
Visitation is from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, June 23, and continues at 10 a.m. Saturday at Nelson-Edelen-Bennett Funeral Home in Radcliff.
