Elsworth ‘Elzie’ Turner Jr.

1967 - 2021

Elsworth "Elzie" Turner Jr., 54, of Louisville, passed away Thursday, Sept. 23, 2021.

Elzie was born in Elizabethtown on May 23, 1967, to Elsworth H. Turner Sr. and Bonnie "Graham" Gaines. Elzie worked for the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet for 22 years. He was a University of Louisville graduate, he also played football for The University of The Cumberlands and was a devoted baseball and football coach for more than 30 years. He enjoyed golfing, cracking jokes, reading the Bible, he liked mentoring people and most of all, he was a great provider and protector for his family, who he loved dearly.
He was preceded in death by a dear close family friend and mentor to him, Ron Netherton.

He leaves to cherish his memory, his wife, Heidi Getzin; his two children, Nathan Getzin (Mary) and Allan Getzin; his parents, Elsworth H. Turner Sr.  (Susan) and Bonnie Gaines; his grandmother, Anna Graham; six siblings, Tommy Turner (Becky), Troy Turner (Jennifer), Vickie Sinfelt (Ron), Tricia Downs, Clinton Turner (Jessica) and Tim Turner; along with numerous nieces and nephews, family and friends and his special "baseball family."

A memorial service is at 2 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 13, in the chapel of Schoppenhorst, Underwood and Brooks Funeral Home, Preston Highway at Brooks Road, Shepherdsville.

Family and friends may pay their respects from noon until time of service Saturday at the funeral home.
