Frederick Whelan Obituary
Mr. Whelan was born Thursday, Jan. 14, 1937, in Flaherty.
Mr. Whelan was a lifelong member of St. Martin of Tours Catholic Church in Flaherty. He was retired from Olin Chemical Plant in Brandenburg, where he had worked as a supervisor.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 52 years, Gayle Williams Whelan; his parents, Edward and Hallie Hager Whelan; six brothers, Bill Whelan, Bob Whelan, Wayne Whelan, Danny Joe Whelan, Ken Whelan and Lee Whelan; and a sister, Mary Clare Phillips.
Mr. Whelan is survived by five sons, Paul A. Whelan and his wife, Michelle, Joe Whelan and his wife, Yanaliz, Steve Whelan and his wife, Debbie, Father Daniel Whelan and Chris Whelan and his wife, Kelly; 18 grandchildren; 21 great grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.
A Mass of Christian burial for Mr. Whelan is at 11 a.m. Thursday, May 1, at St. Martin of Tours Catholic Church in Flaherty. Burial follows in St. Martin Church Cemetery in Flaherty.
Visitation is from 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday and continues from 9 to 10:30 a.m. Thursday at Chism Family Funeral Home in Vine Grove. A prayer service is at 7 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Little Sisters of the Poor, 15 Audubon Plaza Drive, Louisville KY 40217 or Food for the Poor, 6401 Lyons Road, Coconut Creek FL 33073-3602.
