Joshua Cochran Obituary

Joshua Donald Cochran, 40, of Hodgenville, passed away Sunday, June 15, 2025.

He was born on May 23, 1985, in Fort McClellan, Alabama, to Todd and Gay Cochran.

Early in life, Joshua enjoyed fishing, hunting and camping with his family. He was a devout Christian, who was more than willing to share the Gospel. He attended River of Life Church in Hodgenville.

He was a 2003 graduate of John Hardin High School. During high school, Joshua enjoyed cross-country and track, soccer, wrestling and swimming.

After graduation, Joshua attended the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy, a four-year federal service academy which trains officers for civilian ships. During his service, he worked at Edison Chouest Offshore as a ship's officer and ship navigator. Joshua worked on ships that delivered equipment and supplies to all continents, except Antarctica, and worked on ships that were involved in special operations within Southeast Asia. He was a lieutenant in the U.S. Navy Reserves.

Joshua was preceded in death by his maternal grandfather, Robert Gaylon White; and his paternal grandparents, David Benjamin and Billie Murl Cochran.

Survivors include his parents, Todd and Gay White Cochran of Hodgenville; his sister, Elizabeth (Anthony) Hubbs; his maternal grandmother, Sue Annela White; four nephews and nieces, Benjamin, Isaac, Charlotte and Julianna; four uncles and aunts, Dr. Robert Franklin (Sheila) White, Laura Schwister, Vinita (Jody) Cochran and Dan (Amy) Cochran; and 10 cousins, Rachel, Isaiah, Rebekah, Curtis, Emily, Sarah, Molly, Amber, Christina and Kevin.

The funeral is at noon Friday, June 20, at Grace Church in Elizabethtown with Pastor Danny Flowers and Pastor Monty Hershberger officiating. Burial follows in Red Hill Cemetery in Hodgenville.

Visitation is from 4 to 7 p.m. Thursday and continues at 11 a.m. Friday at the church.

A great friend, a moral touchstone, and the embodiment of deeds not words.

Josh was a great friend for the years I got to know him at Kings Point. He was an understated presence, easily the most humble, hardworking, compassionate person I had the privilege of knowing at that time. I remember him as a person who would always be there to listen and help, never asking for anything in return. He had a subtle wry sort of wit and could sit at a piano and just improvise, making up whatever came into his head as he went along. Although we fell out of touch and I haven´t talked to him since 2019, I found myself thinking about him often and hearing of his passing is deeply felt.
