Mayme Jo Evans

Mayme Jo Berry Evans, 85, of Paducah, died surrounded by loving family on Wednesday, July 5, 2017, at Lourdes Hospital in Paducah.

Born Nov. 20, 1931, in Oscar. 'Ms.Mayme' was a 1949 graduate of LaCenter High School. She married Russell B. Evans in September 1950. She was a secretary for Gulf Oil, a legal secretary and retired in 1998 as deputy court clerk in charge at U.S. District Court for the Western District of Kentucky.

Noted for her kindness, strength and beautiful smile, she was an active member of Fountain Avenue United Methodist Church. She sang alto in the choir for 56 years, was a member of the UMW, served as a recording secretary, and was famous for her cakes, pies and skillful frying of country ham at multiple church functions.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 61 years, Russell B. Evans; an infant daughter, Margaret Sharon Evans; her parents, George James "Jim" and Joette Berry; a brother, William Ernest "Bubba" Berry; and a sister, Jane Alice Kraps.

She is survived by three daughters, Brenda Finseth (Brad) of Rochester, Minnesota, Beth Richardson (Steve) of Elizabethtown and Susan Tisthammer of Oslo, Norway; a son, Stuart, formerly of Seattle, Washington; four grandsons, Scott Richardson (Kathryn) of Louisville, Mark Richardson (Sarah) of Lexington, Adam Finseth (Tara) of Savage, Minnesota, and Philip Tisthammer of Oslo, Norway; two granddaughters, Amber Smith (Austin) of Golden Valley, Minnesota, and KelseyTisthammer of Oslo, Norway; five great-grandchildren, Owen, Liam, Nora, Ella and Jude; a sister, Martha Ann Wiggins of LaCenter; and many loving nieces and nephews. She will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her.

The funeral is at 11 a.m. CDT Monday, July 10, at Milner & Orr Funeral Home of Paducah with the Rev. Dr. Gregory Waldrop officiating. Burial follows in LaCenter Cemetery.

Visitation is from 6 to 8 p.m. CDT today at the funeral home.
