Paul Tharpe Obituary

Paul Tharpe, 86, of Jeffersonville, Indiana, formerly of Elizabethtown, died peacefully Wednesday evening, Jan. 22, 2025, at Norton Clark Hospital in Jeffersonville.

Paul was born July 3, 1938, in Elizabethtown, a son of the late James Arnold and Glynna Byrnes Tharp.

Paul was the former owner of Goff Hardware and Quality Carpets and a 1956 graduate of Glendale High School in Elizabethtown, where he played basketball and baseball. He was a proud U.S. Army veteran having served from 1962-1964 and a member of First Baptist Church of Jeffersonville.

He was preceded in death, in addition to his parents, by two brothers, Glenn Tharpe and Jim Tharpe.

Survivors include a daughter, Traci Rothenstine and her husband, Mark, of Ashland; two grandchildren, Drew Rothenstine and wife, Kari, and Lindsay Smith and husband, Jordan; and a great-granddaughter, Preston Smith.

A graveside service with military honors is at 1 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 29, at Hardin Memorial Park Cemetery in Elizabethtown.

Preston Family Funeral Home in Ashland is in charge of arrangements.

My father and I visited them but mostly to see their beautiful daughter.....best I remember you might have been only a few months old!! I just wanted to share my memory of you and your parents.
