Retired First Sgt. Leonard Underwood Obituary
Mr. Underwood was the son of the late Leonard and Lena May Cutts. He was a member of First Baptist Church and a retired U.S. Army veteran. Mr. Underwood was vice chairman of the Board of Trustees of First Baptist Church and a member of the male chorus. He also was a member of Hub City No. 172, Central Consistory No. 244 and Al Nahda No. 247 of Elizabethtown.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a daughter, Dana Kaverlen; four sisters-in-law, Maxie C. Lambirth, Ida Mae Franklin, Marie K. Howard and Eva L. Smith; and two brothers-in-law, Linwood Lambirth and Eugene Lambirth.
Survivors include his wife, Ruth Underwood of Vine Grove; four sons, Leonard Underwood (Gloria), Keith White (Stacy), Edward Stoner and Cleo Stoner (Sharon); seven daughters Alovia Underwood, Janice Darden (Verner), Sylvia Underwood, Helda Ann Pier, Cherry Landis (Thomas), Melody Butler (Leon) and Alice Miller; two brothers, Franklin Underwood (Mae) and James Range (Linda); a sister-in-law Connie C. Franklin (Haywood); a brother-in-law, Leon N. Lambirth; 29 grandchildren and 33 great grandchildren.
The funeral is at 11 a.m. Thursday, Dec. 6, at First Baptist Church in Elizabethtown with the Revs. Roderick Jones and Corde J. Franklin officiating. Burial with military honors follows in Kentucky Veterans Cemetery-Central in Radcliff.
Visitation is from 5 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the church.
Percell & Sons Funeral Home in Elizabethtown is in charge of arrangements.
